Problem with MicroSD Card (Auto Write Protect)

I would like to check if anyone has encountered their microsd card suddenly become write protected?

I searched online and it seems like a problem across different brands and card sizes.

Recently I had my second microsd card acting weird on me and I would like to check if any local experts here managed to revive their "frozen" microsd card before? i.e. removing the write protect.

I am fed up of just leaving these cards aside because I can't do anything to them.

Unlike full sized SD cards, microSD do not have write protect functionality.

If it cannot be formatted using SD Formatter, then it's probably dead. I had 3 Sandisk 64GB microSD from their early batch die the same way.

Or maybe its' a fake card. You will be better leaving it write-protected as opposing to losing data.

I had one sandisk that became like this. I don't think it's a reversible thing. Qualified for an RMA but I didn't bother to send it in cos uncomfortable with the personal data being sent over. It was used on my mobile for at least 2 years... and it wasn't a very big card. Quite cheap nowadays, just bought a new one.

happened to me before, cannot format, cannot delete. card is corrupted.

I had one of the early batches of Sandisk 64GB which died probably a year or two agao. I thought it was a Sandisk problem so I switched to Samsung. But the Samsung just failed on me. Not sure if it is an early batch thingy, I have a Samsung 64GB and 128GB and it is the 128GB (early batch too) that died.

With two bad experience, I think I will buy a cheap PNY microsd card. Don't think wanna splurge on a 128GB anymore.

Bought mine from Amazon, so no local support. And like kandinsky mentioned, I don't feel comfortable sending personal data over.

I don't think it's fake as both my cards of different brands had been working perfectly before. I will probably leave the card in some spare devices.
