Hello all. Recently my desktop made in sim lim had some processor issue after windows update. The processor is still within warranty and the fella at SLS said it needed 4 to 6 weeks to send back to servicing center.

Does it take so long? Is it better that I just take it back and either

1) send it for servicing
2) just get a new processor

But if 2), does it mean I need a new mother board as well? Can I keep the rest of my computer parts?

Please help!

It's faster to send direct to Intel or AMD IF the processor has manufacturer warranty and not just the shop warranty.

As for (2), nobody will be able to help if you don't list the specs of your rig.

Processor issue after Windows Update? Are you sure it's the CPU that died? What makes you think there's a processor issue?

Asrock AB350M Pro4 +Ryzen 5 1400

SanDisk ssd 120gb
Corsair vengeance LPX 2666 HZ 8GB Ram kit
Zotac GTX1060 Mini 6gb GDDR5
FSP HyperX K 500W 80Plus PSU

@rashkae thing is, after the windows update, my booting up stuck at windows page turning. When it tries to enter automatic recovery mode, it just turns blank. I tried to get external USB for windows installation media to force it to go recovery mode in hopes to restore it, but same issue. When it says it is going into automatic recovery mode, the screen turns blue.

I tried all sorts of things I can find on the internet, and can't find any solution so send down do the fella who created my rig. He checked and mentioned it's processor issue which I don't agree but idk what else to do.

are you able to get on in SAfe mode? if so, get on in that mode, check which windows updates were recently installed then uninstall them. Test and see if the issue goes away.

Nope. Did all I could to get beyond the windows loading page but nothing works. Then the bugger told me 4 to 6 weeks to fix which is ridiculous.

Diagnostic fee he mentioned 25. Even though the parts are still under warranty, got a feeling that he will charge me more once the processor returns and it adds up. Then might as well get a new processor if that's the case. So weighing my options now.

tbh, unlikely its your CPU. I trust you have tried mashing F9 on boot up?

Only tried F2 (bring to uefi to change default boot drive) and F11 to change boot drive to the thumb drive. Can I know F9 should brings me to which menu? - search on the net they only mentioned the way to enter safe mode if computer can't go in is to use USB drive and boot it. Which didn't work for me.

If it's really the processor issue, just want to check is it okay to just get an AMD ryzen 2600x and solve all my issues?

Honestly really hard to say if it's the CPU. Sounds like it's a corrupt Windows install, or possibly dead motherboard. Can you go into BIOS and reset to default settings?

Now it's with the sim lim fella. Mentioned that he put the processor in his spare motherboard to tried and failed. So he going to try to reformat, and if fails need to bring to warranty center which takes long. Think it's either wait for warranty or buy new motherboard and processor like what he wants.

Sounds more like windows corrupted. 4 to 6 weeks is pretty standard for older parts, he's doing u a favour by sending it back for you. Some shops will tell u to send back yourself.

Okay if that's the case. Do you reckon its good that I buy a new motherboard and processor? Can it fit with the rest of the parts?

Unlikely is processor issue. Try reinstall windows or get those WinPE boot from USB drive to confirm.

this is why you buy from aftershock. 3 years warranty, first year onsite.

your issue isnt processor. You got scammed $25 for diagnostic fee. try reinstall windows. or bring the whole cpu to asrock distro to test for free

Sounds like you are in a hurry to get the PC up and working. Of course if got $ to buy new will be the best. Some people no $, LLST.

Which shop is that? Probably have to blacklist as CPU very unlikely to fail.
Take note Windows tend to update every 6 months with new build version so for your case.

Probably due to corrupted files or Windows update fail thus corrupted
the Windows.
You are using Ryzen 1st gen which is three years now so Windows
will sure have issue over time.

If you are in the hurry to get your PC fix, suggest go to the shop
and take it back.
Go to reliable repair shop like PCDreams within SLS to have it repaired.

Such issue at the most take few days to resolve but not few weeks.

Reinstall windows first. Solve most issue other than hardware
