Hi Guys

In Singapore, the popular project management courses are the CITPM, PMP and Prince2 courses

CITPM is a Singapore based project management certification and personally, i feel that it may not have as much value if you are working with a MNC

Between PMP and Prince2, PMP is definitely way more popular in this region as a certification. Prince2 on the other hand is more accepted by european companies although this is also gaining popularity

With the new CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) course being offered which is being offered as a Foundation level introduction to the PMP course and also with the fact that the new CAPM course will also be CITREP endorsed, would anyone be keen to embark on this certification or would it be better to go direct to PMP

CAPM is not new, just that not many providers do it. COMAT and Aldion already has it endorsed in the new CITREP term but their course structure is different.

CAPM experience requirement is lower than PMP but the course is essentially the same, exam wise CAPM focuses more on descriptions/theories and is easier to pass compared to PMP.

Most of the providers I know do provide weekend classes. but its not really about the centre, for PMP it is always about the quality and experience of the trainers.

That is definitely a very true statement. There are experienced trainers and there are experienced powerpoint trainers. There are trainers who makes sure you learn something and walk away at the end of the class knowing it is time well spent, and there are trainers who will only focus on clearing the syllabus and exams.

There is a current weekend class going on at TP at this moment and you can always request to sit in for a short while to evaluate the trainer yourself or even get the comments from the students in the class. Nothing beats you doing the evaluation yourself.

Oh, and very important also, the PMBOK is now in the fourth edition and i know not many providers have updated their course materials to align with the changes, so do check carefully

yes... TP's course has both the version 3 and 4 available. So will depend on when the candidate plans to take the examination

actually, doesnt matter already, cos the queue for PMP exam is typically at least two months!

Hi, I am also considering taking PMP prep course and have been quoted by www.intellisoft.com.sg for s$980 for 5 day weekend course starting in May. Anyone know about them? Appreciate if you have any feedback. Thanks in advance.

Also, I have only been project leading/managing for pass 2 years (I understand they need 3 years as exam requisite). Is it advisable to take PMP or, judging from description about CAPM above, should I take CAPM?

forget it... the $980 does not include exam fees. you cant get cheaper net investment at training centres with Enhanced CITREP fundings.

Rating of PMP Trainer

Hi all,

anyone has any comments on the trainer from the course provider? I have checked out Comat's Alan Puan whom seems to be a well known and established trainer. Have anyone attended training at New Horizons by Jeffery Foo, is he a good trainer?

Hi guys you all should attend the training by Knowledge Method.
Their trainers are really good and patient and very interactive with Project Management games and such.
Also their courses are very worth it. Although their prices may look steep at a glance, if you look at what they provide you, its actually very worth it!
Also they are CITREP endorsed and after reimbursement from the government I only paid <$1k SGD for the entire course including course material (Rita Mulcahy's PMP Prep System) and exam fees!

Think about it, Rita's books already cost a bomb. And what's more the materials they provide include the Exam Simulation CD! Its just like going to drivingschool to take the computer test for basic theory. Very useful and gives you a good gauge on the kinds of questions that may come out and it even tells you what you need to concentrate more on.

Can check out their website definitely recommended and great value!

I have a degree from NUS and worked for 5 years which included some projects not so detailed as what project manager is doing. I am new and interested to know more about project manager career.
can anyone here help in explaining the following questions? Thanks alot

1) What is the career propsect/advancement for a project management career? Does it mean that after getting a PMP certified, I can start seeking for project manager level job or only executive level and then gradually promoted to manager level?

2) What is the starting pay for a project mangement career after just getting PMP certified?

3) What is the best or PMI accrediated training centre to take the course? I have done some research that TP, COMBAT, Intellisoft SIM have this course.

4) What is the path leading to getting PMP certifed? Is it that taking project management course from training course, following by an exam from PMP?
