Project Management Training

Am having a problem deciding. I have experience in software implementation and am thinking of going into project management but I do not have experience to go for PMP.

I have narrowed down to three programs. CITPM, CAPM and Prince2. Which is most suitable for me? Prince2 looks pretty difficult for someone of my experience and CITPM looks a bit better than CAPM (i see more jobs requiring CITPM than CAPM)?

what's your objective in taking?

mine was simple, just wanna know better the terminology used, how things works and of cus to make use of CITREP when it was still 80%

I'm interested in understanding more about project management, how it works, and the different aspects of it. I have been a team member, mainly in charge of scheduling and manpower and would like to go management after getting a MSc.

Is there other courses which is applicable and recognizable? All advice is much appreciated!

I assume that your software is implemented as a project. Even if it's not an 'official' project, you would have needed to perform some form of planning before you implemented it right? That's project management.

I know, but that's just the surface am I right? Would like to move in the direction of being a project manager.

I wanna do PMBOK but I do not have the require experience. I dont have any experience in leading a project. More of a team member.

I researched and looks like CITPM requires CAPM . And Prince 2 has two levels (foundation and practitioner)? Goodness. Really confused.

You don't need to have been a PM before to be PMP certified. As long as you have been in projects, that counts as experience towards certification. At least that was true a couple of years ago when I took my PMP. Which makes sense as you can sometimes see and learn what are the good and not so good things that the PMs in your project did.

Certification-wise, personally, I like PRINCE2 more than PMP. PMP is 200 MCQs but mainly testing your memory (Bloom's level 1 and 2). PRINCE2 Foundation tests your memory but Practitioner level tests your application of knowledge (Bloom's level 3 and 4).

Knowledge-wise, both PRINCE2 and PMP supplement each other quite well; each are strong in areas the other side is weak in.

Practicality-wise, most employers recognise PMP. Though PRINCE2 is slowly gaining traction with many employers looking for PMs who are certified in either one.

But in real world practice.....PMP only serves as a guideline which i've probably only used 10% of its academic teaching.

PM is alot about EQ though.
