Hi guys. Can tell you guys are very experienced so hope you can tell me about my diamond.

I got from JP a 0.51ct Super Ideal Cut, F VS1, HCA 0.7 for $4,050 exclu setting.

Is it a good or at least ok deal?

Saw one of the bros here got his 0.47 ct Super ideal cut vvs2 F for only 3.3k

$750 difference like a lot. But I also read here that once after 0.5 ct, price will jump by quite a bit. Why is that so?

Thanks

Based on the rapaport, the difference in price seems legit between a .47 n a .51 stone. :D

Did a quick research as I'm not sure what rapaport is. So.. Rapaport is like the price calculation standard for deriving diamond value right.

Do you think $750 extra is a worthwhile sum to pay for that slight increase in size? Not that I know if JP has a similar sized one yet but am thinking of changing the size (again). :(

Thanks bro lurker for your time. Think she would rather I give her that difference to go Europe. Haha.

But Sam from JP just replied. Only 2 left in the 0.4x range.
0.44 vvs2 E $2.9k
0.45 vvs1 G $2.65k

I only want F color and above. But 0.44 ct is so... damn inauspicious. :slant:

Just to benefit other bros who are looking for their first proposal ring and are confused about the diamond pricing, below is what Sam from JP just emailed me. Patient and nice guy. Can see why they are so popular around here.

"Diamond prices do increase significantly when it passes certain carat weights, such as 0.30ct, 0.40ct, 0.50ct, 0.70ct, etc
Hence, this is why we do not carry these flat carat sizes. Anything with a 0.3xct, would be fine.
In addition, when we purchase our diamond from cutters, it comes with discounts. Carat sizes nearer the the flat carat sizes, usually gets better discounts.
Eg. A diamond cutter would give a discount of -15% discount for a 0.51ct and a -8% discount for a 0.58ct.
By providing more discounts for the lower carat size groups, it lessens the price difference in the price jump.

However, that being said, a high 0.4ct+ Eg. 0.46-0.49ct, is hard to come by, as diamond cutters do prefer to hit the 0.50ct+ mark to sell their diamond at a higher pricing, even though if it means reducing the quality of the Cut.
In terms of relative proportion as well, say a 0.97 G VS2 will approximately be under $12,000, a 1.01 G VS2 will be $14,300."

JP basic setting is about $550. You can place deposit to reserve a diamond for a few days. I think as long as they have yet to craft it for you, you can just change your diamond. I would suggest you email JP or your preferred jeweler to find out more.

bro Calyxplinius, your "6 weeks time" caught my attention. My understanding is it takes about 4-6weeks to make the ring. Not sure if you have decided on the diamond but time is running up on you.

I wonder if this has got to do with the diamond price increase.
Can see the diamond price chart here:
Diamond Price Chart | PriceScope
If you look at the graph, the 0-0.5cts increase by 15% from beginning 2013 to Jan 2014.

- correction. I read the chart wrongly. It's in % increase. This means it increase every month by about 2-8% each month and particularly a 15% increase in mid 2013. When you add all these accumulated % increases, the return even higher than buying property

Apparently, diamond prices will skyrocket in 2018.
Rough diamond prices to skyrocket in 2018 | MINING.com
Don't know how true is that though... but if it is, better start buying now :s13:

Do any bros here buy diamond for investment? If you look at the historical charts, diamond prices keep going up.

No. They only give me the celestial certificate. I ask for the gia cert, they say dont have. Thats why im confuse. Anyone got any idea on this??

It should at least come with some form of certifications.. Though I will prefer GIA or AGS.. Maybe they forgot to give?
