For the setting, can I request to have a specific design or get JP to replicate a design that I (or my future SO rather) want? Can right? TIA

GXGX! I wouldnt call myself a master :o Here's my 2 cents..
The certificate and proportions are good. You won't go wrong if its JP's Super Ideal Cut.. no harm posting the scope photos of your diamond too :)

Hi, just paid deposit for a ring, GIA number 1198142469, super ideal cut, 0.62 carat, E, VS2 at JP. Was quoted $6800 with halo setting and side diamonds. Is this reasonable?

Also, want to check when do we get the ASET scope of the diamond? Was served by Ranjit and he didnt point out where the inclusions are within the diamond.

Just made a deposit for a Super Ideal diamond at JP..

AGS: 104074257032
Weight: 0.531

Was able to see the inclusion under the ASET and Ideal scope but I think it is not that big an issue.. or is it? :s22:

ASET scope will be sent to you around 1-2 weeks time.. i think some of the bros here has mentioned the price for the halo setting..
so i guess the price you're paying is quite reasonable.

i paid 6.6k for 0.62carat solasfera G color VS1, normal setting

2) ask goldheart for the diamond specs and use the hca calculator. (Google for this calculator and input the relevant numbers from the gia cert)
3) Super ideals vs solasfera can differ about 15-20% pricewise.
4) usually jp recommends either basic(550) or with side diamonds(1200). So u will need to know hhaha

hca is not something commonly recognise by most jewellers beside JP. its basically used to filter the 'poorer' quality diamond.

Solasfera is like ur branded diamond which other jewellers have its equivalent like Lee hwa - destinee, Larry - lazare, Soo Kee - brilliant rose etc etc.

even for side diamonds, there are different settings available.

u can request if u have something in mind. JP also have many type of settings for you to choose from.

just look at those from big names jewellers like tiffany, cartier, bvglari ..go for a design that is classy and timeless....although the likelihood of 'upgrade' is quite likely years down the road..

Thanks, I am looking at an design similar to Cartier's old solitaire ring which she likes. Just dunno what size would be a better fit for it :p

Noob question here, is it the lower the HCA, the better the diamond?

Noob question here, is it the lower the HCA, the better the diamond is?

First rule of thumb.. HCA is only applicable to round brilliant 57 facet diamonds.

Secondly, HCA calculates the score based on the values you input (which are average values and not the exact values, not to mention rounding).

Thirdly, the score is based on 17 facets out of the 57 facets. Even if you get a low HCA score, it only means that the 17 facets are good cuts. The other 40 facets are unaccounted for. That's where the Ideal and ASET scopes come in..

HCA should only be used to reject diamonds and not to determine if a diamond is a good diamond.

What this means is if you get a HCA score > 1.4, you can be sure that this diamond is not good because the 17 facets have already been determined to not have optimal cuts.

But if the HCA score is <= 1.4, you are only sure that 17 facets are optimally cut, and you should still use the scopes to determine if the diamond is good.

As mentioned on most websites...

The Holloway Cut Adviser (U.S. Patent 7,251,619) estimates a round diamonds appeal based on its potential Light Return, Fire, Scintillation and Spread.

Most people prefer stones that rate 1-2 on a scale where: 0-2 Excellent, 2-4 Very Good, 4-6 Good, 6-8 Fair, and 8-10 Poor. Zero is almost impossible since many of the factors conflict.
