On the contrary I went to JP first before going to other retailers to compare. Haha.

Was at GoldHeart 2 days ago looking for a cross pendant and there was a 50% sale then. Their diamonds do look very sparkly though even the small ones. However did not buy anything as it was still over my budget. Noticed that retailers wear black gloves when handling their diamonds.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Will read up more about the basics first and will make Jann Paul my last stop. I also noticed that there are many different diamond cuts or shapes like the square/cushion/oval shapes.. Do most of you guys end up getting a round one or something different? and how would you know whether to get her a round or another shape? drop hints??

Sorry for the many questions!

For me, I ended up getting the Cushion Brellia. If you look around, you'll realize that most non-round diamonds do not have Hearts and Arrows.. Which makes the diamond sparkle less. I wanted something abit more special, while "sparkles" was still my most important factor.. so for me, I decided on the Brellia based on it's uniqueness in shape and sparkle.

You can see a big difference..

Maybe you can try pretend to go "window shopping" with your gf to find out what she likes.. or you can show her videos.. good luck!

I am checking out BlueNile.com as well.

Based on their website, NYTimes did an article on them 5 years back.

Check it out on their About Us page (all the way at the bottom)!

Is Bluenile reliable? Anyone got theirs from bluenile?

My friend bought from Bluenile before last year.. He got their Ideal category. But when the diamond came in, it wasn't so Ideal.. There was a ring of light leaking in the centre and the diamond looked smaller than other shops when we compare with the same carat. So not only did it look smaller, it was less brilliant.. (Lucky he bought it first and not me =:p). After that, I started doing more research and came across this forum and learnt more about the Ideal/Aset/H-A scopes to see a diamond first. It really pays to do your research :)

Personally, I think it's very risky when you don't get to see the diamond before you buy it. I tried asking for pictures from bluenile before but they don't provide.. I would say if you're buying a diamond, just for the sake of buying a diamond, you can try them out.. but if you are looking for a proper real quality diamond, there are other better places.

I agree. There's so much more than just buying a diamond blindly like that. This video is a useful tutorial of what factors to consider when buying a diamond.

hi ppl, need your advice pls...

my gf n i went to jann paul to look for engagement ring.. although we like their service n all, we decided to shop ard.

we went to another place called "yuan dong" at bukit merah. yuan dong selling this particular rock which we think is really bang for buck, so we placed a $1k deposit for it (didnt pay full price bcuz we wanna think abt the ring design).

all this while jann paul has been emailing my gf, asking if she wanna look again at the rocks blah blah, so my gf told him the specs of the rock and the price from yuan dong and asked if he got something similar.

jann paul asked for the GIA number, and subsequently told my gf that he can get the exact same rock at a lower price, and he also claimed that the rock is currently located in india...

but i remember the lady at yuan dong show us the GIA number inscription on the rock using the magnifier. it was only the last 4 digit though..

now we are extremely confused on who to trust..

sorry for the wall of text, but really need some help here.. thx guys..

From what I know, each GIA number is specific to each individual rock, there are no 2 rocks with the same GIA number.

To be sure, you need to tally the number on the diamond to the GIA cert and make sure every single digit is correct. You need to go back to yuan dong and asked to see the full GIA number instead of just the last 4 digits. Than you can see who to trust.

I'm not an expert on this though, perhaps the older forumers can give you better advice.

Got my ring from Jann Paul today! Was hoping to collect it directly from Jann and talk a while with him. but he was busy so was served by the other sales assistants from HOH. At least before I left, he asked me whether I like my ring :)

Best part was despite me already knowing about the ring, my fiance still managed to give me a proper surpise proposal with this ring. He had bought a rotating crystal stand and when I went to the toilet, he went to prepare. Than he brought me to where he first asked me to be his gf, with a heartfelt speech, he took out the crystal stand with the ring on it( Of course I already know what the ring looks like haha) :)

Here's the bling(Cushion Brellia with halo):

JP didn't have time to take professional pics for my ring because we were in a rush to collect it today as my fiance and I are flying off tomorrow. He told us he wants to take pics of it the next time we come back for polishing :s13:

It can be like those online stocks.. During my shopping, I came across same diamond but different websites.. but if you're not sure, you can try clarify with them.. Jann Paul has very good service.. I'm sure they can clear your doubts
