Apart from jaanpaul which everyone seems to recommend, where else can I get a decent diamond at a nice size for a good price?

Hi guys, just gotten the scope of my diamond. Any comments? I felt I paid a bit higher than some of the bros here. 6.2k with settings.

I was quoted $4.8k for a 0.62ct G VS2.
Yours is a 0.60ct E VS1 for about $5.7k.

It's the colour and clarity that's making it expensive.

I am planning to get a engagement ring for my girlfriend. I went to Jannpaul and checked some other jewellery shops around.

Why do some jewellery shop can offer cheaper for same diamond specs? I am getting confused already. Did I missed something else? :s22:

I hope you can give me some advise :D

Depends on the cut. There's Super Ideal Cut, Ideal cut, Excellent cut. Different cut, different quality, different prices :)

Assuming that GIA paper specs is the same, the price difference would be due to different cuts and branding. Take a close look and see for yourself which cut looks better to you and whether it is worth the price difference..

Hi everyone, I really wanna thank you all for contributing all the info/ tips here.. It has helped me alot in my decision! =)

I have a stupid question to ask, though: Payment.

I have decided on a proposal ring. I have the cash but I don't feel safe paying in cash physically.

Typically, would there be any instalment payment mode(s) in the jewelry shops? e.g. Tiffany & Co.

I do have credit cards, but the CC limit is lower than the price of the ring..

Any idea if I could, for example, split the bill into 2 of my credit cards? Or debit by bank?? Or you guys here usually pay upfront?

I have done my own recce in various shops (both locally and overseas). But I guess I'm too shy to ask questions related to the payment method - especially for this particular ring which is above my CC limit.

Anyone had bought their ring overseas too? How'd you guys pay for it? Also one shot?

Pardon me if this has already been asked before..

Thanks so much in advance!!

Hi all

I am not very familiar with diamonds. I have decided to propose to my gf. Recommended by friends, I went to Jannpaul afew days back. I was quoted $4.3k for a super ideal (I suppose super ideal means the typical diamond which is in round shape) with specs,0.56 carat,G,VS1. Ring setting with side diamond is another $1.2k. Is the price reasonable?

Hope you guys with more knowledge on diamonds can give me some advise. Thanks ! Apologies for being such a noob here. :s22:

You can break down the payment by swiping as many cards as you like. Had the same concern as you but could not get approval to raise my card limit for ring purchase. (No thanks to citibank for that). In the end, I did the above for my ring in t&c. No shame in that and the sales in the branch made me feel at ease doing that.

Its quite common to split credit cards for big ticket items.
But don't spend over your means bro.. you still need to get wedding bands and wedding dinner to pay for. Don't spend all on the proposal ring.

Hmm, bro, if you are spending more than your credit card limit, that sounds like you are overspending on the ring, coz usually credit limit is at least twice our salary right?

Even if you pay by instalments, the credit card company will ensure you have enough credit limit to hold the full amount. EG $20K item paying by instalments of $1K per month. You must have at least $20K credit limit for that card. Alternatively, request for a temporary increase.

Diamond price per carat is USD 2689 based on the rappaport... So u can do yr maths here :) U can get cheaper buying online but one of the con is tat u can't see the diamond before u decide.

U can also do yr legwork going ard diff stores to compare... But be sure to compare apples to apples.
