Hi Guys..

Just went to JP yesterday and was quoted $4500 (+1k setting) for a 0.56 ct Solasfera VS2 G. Is this a good buy? It's been a while since I checked this thread so I need your comments if the price too high? too low? I'm having 2nd thoughts now since I'm not sure if it will look good on a 7 american size ring finger. Is it too small for her ring size? With the initial budget of 7k max wd setting, u think I should have gotten a super ideal wd a bigger carat say .6-.7ct instead? appreciate all your comments, thanks!

it depends how much importance the size matters to the girl ? Its all about proportion i feel.. on a petite girl's finger.. even a 0.4+ looks rather substantial liao.

Solasfera is a very beautiful stone (91 facets) versus super ideal round (57 facets). To me , Solasfera blings like a mini disco ball....its very pretty but i still prefer the super ideal more. Also unless you get a 0.7+ , else i doubt the "size difference" will be that obvious.

Certified brand new diamond ring

Hi all,

I have a brand new diamond ring, just certified yesterday by Nan Yang Gemological Institute.

Main stone is 0.31 carat, between F and G color, VS2. Good polish and Symmetry. The main stone is set on 14k white gold lined with many small diamonds, so it is like a pave halo diamond ring. The small diamonds is G and H color, VS1 and VS2 clarity. The total carat for small diamonds is 0.2.

I buy and sell diamond rings for interests and earnings. I do not have a physical shop or employee costs so my diamond ring are priced lower than market. I have researched similar specification of my ring with Vivodiamonds (results can be seen on their online search page), similar ring will cost $2100.

I am selling for $1400. My mobile is 82336694, email positivehappysmile at gmail . com. Contact for seeing the ring. :s12:

I dropped by JannPaul a couple of days ago for a free diamond education session and the experience was so great that I felt obliged to give a short write up of my visit there.

I was attended to by Casey, who patiently explained all there is to know about diamonds which I found very informative as I have to admit I am a total noob when it comes to diamonds.

I was first introduced to the different scopes they use, namely the ASET Scope, the Ideal Scope, and the Hearts and Arrows Scope which are used with a light box. Both the ASET and Ideal Scope are used to indicate the light performance of the diamonds and the Hearts and Arrows Scope is used to view the hearts and arrows In a diamond. One more useful tool is the Holloway Cut Adviser which can used in conjunction with the GIA cert to estimate a round diamonds appeal based on its potential Light Return, Fire, Scintillation and Spread. It can be found at Holloway Cut Adviser | HCA Tool | PriceScope

JannPaul offers many different diamond cuts, but my favourite is the round brilliant cut because the hearts and arrows look so perfect and symmetrical! Hope to pick that out for my girl next year!

Casey shared that they offer 3D customization services and I was surprised to find out that this service provided is so much cheaper than other outlets! I think what sets JannPaul apart from other outlets is that they are so patient to explain everything in depth, not too technical and not too layman.

I’ll be sure to pay them a visit when I decide to pop the question!

That time casey served me too. Very friendly chap. Then jann was the one who helped come up with my customized design.

Mine was the cushion brellia.. had a tough time deciding to go for the round or cushion. Gf wanted a more "vintage" look.. plus the cushion suited my ring design more.

You planning for next year as in 2015 or 2016? :s13:

Tnx bro. during the visit to JP, SAM showed me 2 diamonds, .56ct solasfera G and .61ct super ideal F. he also explained that from 2-3 ft away they almost have the same size. your actually right, theres no much diff unless i get .66ct above. but id be over my budget.. just need to wait for the actual ring and see if it fits her ring finger well. :)

If its the round shape from Jann Paul, it should be the super ideal cut.. The only other one is the solasfera. Their diamonds are good. Rose gold seems to be getting quite popular

Agree, Casey is a very patient, nice chap to deal with. I also had a very pleasant experience with JP couple of years ago. Glad they maintained their service level.

Size does matter....

If budget is a constraint, i would say that you should compromise (clarity, cut, color, carat). In this order...

Meaning to say, Carat (AKA Size) should be the most important.... its useless to get a VVS1, IF, D, 0.4 over a VS2, Good, F, 0.9 ... as the size itself is usually the biggest point of comparisons between girls.

Dont be fooled by the 'Ideal Cut' or Clarity stuff they tell you... whilst its true that the luster of the diamond would be affected, its not usually that obvious to the naked eye, when compared to lets say a small (0.4) vs a big diamond (0.9).

This is just my 2 cents.

My bias preference will be white gold. But it also depends on the colour of your stone. Think I read somewhere that for lower grade colour it is not advisable to use white or platinium as will make the yellow tint of the stone more noticeable.:D

i was tinking of white gold too. platinum or perhaps palladium is too exp. just feel no nee spend over the moon on the setting.

it sort of weird if i use yellow gold or rose gold..no doubt some will choose tis.
