Are you only looking for Super Ideal diamonds? Two of my friends purchased 1 carat rings with halo settings included for around 10k from CJ Diamonds. I believe it’s ideal cut diamond. I have seen the ring in real life and it looks great, craftsmanship is good and diamond is extremely sparkly.

Hi jadeite! I happen to visit CJ diamond. I realise they don’t provide scope pictures and hence, I am not confident in buying from them. They are selling at least for triple excellent diamonds but doesn’t differentiate between Super Ideal, ideal etc as they don’t see the need to.

Hi snowblaze, interesting! Thanks for the information. I will be sure to include the info about scope images the next time I recommend them to others. At least they are triple ex diamonds rather than worse and can possibly still calculate HCA ideal cut proportions based on the cert.

Just got these scope images from JP..

I realised there's some misalignment at the centre of the diamond, quite obvious in all the images.

Also there seems to be afew patches of green around the centre of the diamond in the ASET scope.. browsed some of the other octagon diamond posts but dont see these problems in their diamond images...

Can anyone advise if these are problems?

Octagon are patented cut, all should be the same. The best person you should ask is the shop, not in forum. They can advise you whether it’s really an issue or just the photo taking of the scope images problem

Im probably going for cheaper one also. Not much difference actually, the price.

Just that thinking whether to go higher CT and lower some spec.
On a serious note, you should G VS2, then max the carat

Anyone can recommend any decent jewellery shops for proposal ring? Do share your experience as well.

My budget is around 3-4k, thanks!

The middle usually will be green. The shape can be irregular. I notice them in the Super Ideal Cuts too. I think its ok and shouldn't affect the light performance. Just need to make sure the arrows are straight and aligned, and the table portion is full of red. You can also use the Hearts scope to check the symmetry.

Brilliance is to do with diamond's brightness. The solasfera has 100% light return with zero light leakage. Going by this logic, it should have better brilliance? I might be wrong in this...

Solasfera is 100% light return. Don't forget, the arrows creates contrasts too and will be dark under white lighting conditions and fire under direct lightings like sunlight. It is the strong light return plus the arrow contrast effect that will make the diamond brilliant. Just like a mirror is 100% light return but it doesn't mean it is brilliant.

The Octagon is brilliant too in its own way. It really depends also in what types of lights you see them under. When I was there, they showed me under spotlight, fluorescent, outdoor, shopping mall and inside of Cheers shop. lol.
I find that the Solasfera looks best when it under direct lights like sunlight, LED or those spotlights (lobby lights). In fluorescence or under the shade, I actually prefer the Octagon for its bigger white areas because its less contrasted. Overall, I thought the Octagon had the best balance to my taste.

Nice. Didn't know you can do so many colors. I prefer the white version one too. Even your prongs got diamonds. You went bling all the way man. haha

This is the video and photos of mine. She wanted a 6 prongs setting so bo pian need to choose round shape. They said Octagon and Brellia only can do in 4 prongs. Back then, they didn't have any Solasfera in my specs. So only left with the Super Ideal. Either way, I'm very satisfied with it (or rather she is very satisfied with it. haha)

I thought I was OCD with the lighting effects on the diamond. You even have toilet light and kitchen light. hahahaha.

This is a close up of the diamonds on the prongs. I'm waiting for them to do a wax version. Excited to see it!

Young ppl seem to be a bit more demanding and willing to spend on this kind of stuff. I’m in mid 30’s and my SO is early 30’s. After hinting and then discussion, we decided on cheaper engagement ring, spend more on wedding bands and more on home reno and furniture.

Now when see nice expensive furniture we don’t feel as pain buying. Can aim for nice marble tops and solid wood furniture, more shiok to us than diamond ring :)

I agree, everyone has different priorities in life :) For me, I prefer a diamond (paid for by myself) and am happy with simple and usable counter top and ikea wood furniture and wood laminate toilet doors (vs. solid wood doors). Many of my friends also decided to go for a simple e-ring or simple eternity band as e-ring. Not every girl is diamond-mad haha. Every couple is different!

If you are going bigger, the reason why I decided not to get octagon is because it is visually much smaller than round brilliant of the same ct weight. More expensive, looks distinctly smaller and from a casual viewing distance of 10-20 inches away it looks round to me.

But regardless I totally agree that you should max to G VS2 and go higher in size!

Did you see their Octavia? I know they have 5 types; Super Ideal, Solasfera, Octagon, Brellia and Octavia. I don’t see much people talking about the Octavia though

Super Ideal Cut
0.62 G VS1

Images wise, all super ideal cut looks almost exactly the same (especially when the diamond is viewed in real life). no point comparing i feel?

yeah, real life no differences mostly.

will try to see super ideal on my next visit there.
