Hi all, finally it's time for me to burn a hole in my pocket (w mixed feelings) :s13:

Would love to get some advice for the diamond below:
1.20
G
VS1
Super Ideal cut

Quoted 16.8k for diamond only from JannPaul. Have attached some scope images and hope experts/gurus can chime in on this piece. Very much appreciated!!

Inputs: from the H&A scope, seems like the edges are not really looking too good, e.g., some are darker (black), some are greyish, and some are reddish. Have added another image after the GIA cert to point these out.

Looks almost perfect to me.
ASET looks good, uniform girdle.
A hearts and arrow view was never meant to show light return but rather symmetry.
Nobody actually looks at the variation of color with a heart scope, but u could always ask JP
Price is inline with SIC with only marginal savings (for the same color n clarity) even if u went online

I just got my ring from JP. Question - Am I supposed to be able to see the black arrow thingy with the naked eye after the ring is mounted? Cos I totally cant see any on my ring....

In theory the black arrow is the contrast that is the obstruction of light thats usually caused by the camera or your head shadow.

You can see here on the camera set up. The same theory should apply with the naked eye

That should be normal for the Hearts. Its more to see the symmetry of it and not so much on the Color. The Color doesnt matter for Hearts. You got a perfect diamond right there. Price is good too. Comparing them to online, you got a great deal!

JP 1.20 G VS1 S$16,800 with tax

WF ACA 1.21 G VS1 S$17,454 with tax

BG Black 1.24 G VS1 S$18,330 with tax

@milthan & @CaptainFantastic, unfortunately, was just told that this beauty has been sold yesterday (which was when I received the scopes too) :(

Will be checking w them for similar diamond specs and hope to get your inputs again.

It’s better to place deposit or reserve it once u see a F-G VS1-2 SIC. It’s usually sold within days, almost everyone aiming for such specs and they have a lot of customers.

No worries. Happy to help out.
Q. Did u go HOH to check out larger than 1ct stones to see if u can accept H color?

Reason I ask being if u die die want G, VS2 for example and JP tells u no stock, there is also a custom cut option. There are however pros n cons to it.

Hi all especially @milthan & @CaptainFantastic,

They showed me another diamond around the same specs, would love to get some advice as well:

1.23
G
VS1
Super Ideal Cut

Quoted 17k for diamond only from JannPaul. Have similarly attached some scope images and hope experts can provide some inputs/advice. Really appreciate it & hopefully we will settle on this!!

This stone is almost exactly the same specs as the previous stone with the main difference being:

1. Depth 60.2 - 6.94 x 6.96 x 4.19mm(current)
2. Depth 60.8 - 6.86 x 6.88 x 4.18mm(previous)

So for $200, u get a bigger bump in caret but the lower depth also means that you get a slightly ‘wider’ stone.
The 58% table will favour more white light return Vs fire

Now for pple who say there’s no difference in JP SIC, there is... here’s 4
1. Your current choice, 2. Previous sold
Note the micro contrast in the inner ring.

Is stone 3 and 4 better? On paper probably

hi guys,

Does JP provide scope images for the diamond? I have placed a booking fee and is it possible to request for the images?

TIA

Wow, thanks for replying. I am actually considering between this and another piece 1.22 but don’t have access to upload them here.

Didn’t quite get your last few sentences. Would you consider it positive? Saw that there are two needle marks on the cert but honestly, wasn’t able to spot them using 10X scope.

https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/news/black-brian-gavin-vs-brian-gavin-signature/

One of the defining attributes between BGD black and signature is the elimination of the contrast areas and any possible light leakage between the arrows.

rOd0Mby.jpg

For ASET, we know red = light return and white = leakage.

In stone 2 (the sold stone), you can see the contrast blue between the arrows

In stone 1 (your current choice), the blue contrast areas are minimised but it’s edging towards some white, possibly due to the depth. The cutter is really pushing boundaries here

In stone 4, u have maximum light return and hardly any blue contrast between the arrows.

Is stone 4 better? Probably but we are really splitting hairs here and your chance of finding such a stone in the size n color u want might be even harder
