I feel its way overpriced. You can get a better cut at a much lower price with JP.

Need help

I bought a diamond online from Bluenile but its not sparkling at all. Its a 0.55ct F VS1. On the GIA certificate, it has cut (excellent), polish (excellent), symmetry (excellent).

I don't know why but the diamond looks quite dark and have no shine. It's already the 3rd best color (F) but it doesnt look white for some reason. Theres not much sparkles... when I move the diamond around to try to see those reflection, its looks very bland.. like alot of dark spots and no color.. is this normal?

that sounds like light leakage to me...

calculate the HCA score based on the dimensions from the GIA certificate to start with? If it's a high number > 2.0 then that would kinda explain why it looks like that

you might be color sensitive. hence F doesn't look "clear transparent" to you. As for the "bling factor" you might want to check out the HCA calculator. just google it and input details given in your cert. if its > 2, its proportion is not good and much leakage is expected.

Its most likely because of light leakages. F is a high color and won't make the diamond look dark.. low color will make the diamond look yellow.. not dark. The darkness and sparkle is caused by the cut.

To summarize,
You have a 0.55carat F VS1 w/ HCA 1.8, crystal and feather.
Crystal and feathers are minor flaws within the diamond. Depending on size and qty of it, the crystal can further block/deflect light path.
Feather is tiny cracks within diamond.
Depends on how much of those are present, it can affect reflection too.
HCA can only tell u what are bad diamonds for sure >2 are bad for most ppl. If you have good HCA, then you need to check on other aspects to be good as well.
You need scopes to tell how well your diamond performs. Scroll through this thread, notice the ideal scope and aset scopes results. They will tell you how well the light performance/leakage of your diamonds are. Symmetry can be checked via hearts n arrow scope. You can head to JannPaul for a crash course. It takes only about 1hr or so. Make an appt! Hope tis helps.

budget of 2k- 3.5k

dear diamond experts, 小弟 is getting married and the budget for diamond ring is around 2K to 3.5K only.
had done some diamond reseach, went to JP and have the diamond choices below. tho it's lower budget, but still hope to get some opinions here. the price for the diamonds is only few hundreds different.

1. 0.38ct VVS2 D (Solasfera)
2. 0.41ct VVS1 F (Super Ideal)
3. 0.41ct VS2 E (Super Ideal)
4. 0.41ct VS1 G (Super Ideal)

I'm struggling to make a decision on whether to go for Solesfera (nice cut but smaller) or Super Ideal (nice but not as nice cut as Solesfera but slightly bigger)..from naked eye..it looks almost the same..but 0.41ct is noticeable slightly bigger den 0.38ct..any suggestion on which should I go for? appreciate it !

You need to pay for shipping back. Mine costed around $200+. Then there’s also the tax you may lose out. I didnt ship mine to SG so i didnt get taxed. If you pay by credit card, depending on the currency you pay, you might lose out on the exchange rate spread from the bank. What I suggest is to calculate the total cost you lose if you refund and weigh it if you buy a better diamond locally. See if it makes sense to you?

I had the same problem with my diamond too. i returned my 0.7ct E VVS1 and got a 0.7ct F VS2 super ideal cut instead. TBH, i found that color and clarity to be not that important. I couldn’t see any difference with the VVS1 and VS2. For color, see how sensitive you are. In fact, i find my super ideal cut F color was whiter than the ideal E color. The cut is the one which will affect it the most. Light leakage will make the diamond dark.

Took some photos and videos

From my experience, bring your diamond when you go to other jewellers and compare it next to them. Use the ASET scope to see what’s wrong with it. Then weigh your options. Even though i returned my diamond and lost some $$, i got a better cut one at a cheaper price (ended up saving arnd 1k). Jp has a much stricter criteria than online vendors. Although my color and clarity is lower, the diamond was much whiter and sparkly.. i don’t think girls will go around and ask what is the color and clarity. They’ll just see how sparkly it is. If ppl see the dark light leakage diamond and you tell them its D color, they also won’t believe. Just make sure you do this before the 30 days expires.

dont think its possible for JP as their min octagon is 0.41 carat.

not sure if other places carry an octagon diamond.

Another option is he buy another diamond for the proposal ring and reset the other one into another accessory. I changed my old diamond into a pendant when I upgraded mine.

Can also see the other better cuts like the Solasfera and Octagon. Those will be more sparkly for sure

But bro, on bluenile site,a 0.7 D vvs1 Sig Ideal diamond cost only S$7277.00 now, considering the fact that USD rates have risen considerably, it should be more expensive now and not cheaper.

Mind providing the link to the setting you have your bluenile diamond on? Can't find it on their website. Or was it not set by bluenile? if so, purchase of their loose diamond will come with the ring box as well?
