I agree with @mero_cwj. The HCA score for this diamond is only 4.5:

Light Return Good
Fire Good
Scintillation Good
Spread or diameter for weight Very Good
Total Visual Performance 4.5 - Good - Only if price is your main criterion

Any scope images to share?

No scope pictures so far, he had already ordered it. He said it was direct from the factory so the price is very good, comparable to bluenile?

I wonder how would this diamond hold up against a similar 1.0ct Octagon cut from JP?

what do you guys think of lab simulated diamonds? it is 30-40% cheaper than real diamonds. a 1 carat, D, VVS with ideal/super ideal can go as low as 6-7k... my friend has bought 1, its clear and bright, i'm no expert, so i can't tell the difference that it's a lab diamond until my friend told us. no1 is gonna walk ard with their certificates right? and, even lab diamonds are certified now btw...

In my opinion, these so-called man-made diamonds are cheap "alternatives" for everyday wears. But for proposal ring, I think real diamonds are better la. Imagine if your girlfriend or fiancee finds out you proposed with a "fake" diamond, rest of your married life jialat lo. :D

I went to Orro the other day after visiting JannPaul and Canary. Their lab grown diamonds are seriously too bright and flashy. Look a bit like polished glass, to be honest haha. They don't have that "diamond feel" to them. Well, maybe I know beforehand that they are lab grown so yea...

Objectively, it's not a good diamond at alp, very poor cut proportions. Whether it is worth it for the price he paid is a different matter. Can't advise on that because I don't really have any reference points to compare against for diamonds of the same quality.

For that price, no complaints. Like what the HCA scores say: Good - Only if price is your main criterion.

Ohh ok. I believe the low price is due to its cut. Anyway, do post the scope images if they are available. I am curious to see if they reflect the 4.5 HCA score.

I am not exactly confident if any expert would be able to tell with a glance, let alone not-so-expert peeps like us. (They probably be able to tell, if they can sit down with it with scopes and other tools)

To me "fake" or not is not too important, I doubt my SO will bother too much about it too. Just that I am too mainstream to give the alternative a thought. I might soon, if I get a real one.

Like I say, I have friends who wore 1.XX carats and they look extremely good. Most importantly, they do not cost a leg or an arm. Can consider for every day wear.

If your SO is ok then go ahead bro cuz it really does not burn a hole in your pocket haha. Most of us here I believe are hesitant with man-made diamonds because they are afraid that their future wives might not be able to accept a "fake" stone for such an important occasion, like what @exquisite_markas said haha.

I do not think she bothers too much and I do not see them as fakes. Just alternative.

:s13:

Let me go mainstream for once, and get the alternatives down the road.

Important events like proposal better go mainstream la bro.

Birthdays and anniversaries can choose something different. Like what I did. I got her cubic zirconia. ;)

That's because Orro sells lab-grown diamond simulants and not lab-grown diamonds.

Lab-grown diamonds are identical to naturally-formed diamonds in composition, just that they are formed by a different process. IIRC (but don't quote me on this), true lab-grown diamonds (NOT LAB-GROWN DIAMOND SIMULANTS) are almost 100% indistinguishable from naturally-formed diamonds, except when examined under specialised tools, because the different method of formation affects the way the carbon atoms join together or something like that. Lazy to explain so here's a link to GIA - https://www.gia.edu/identifying-lab-grown-diamonds

Personally, if I were buying for myself (like if I were the type to wear some massive diamond ear stud 2000s beng style), I wouldn't mind getting lab-grown diamonds.

But for an engagement ring, I rather err on the side of caution and just get a naturally-formed diamond unless I am 99999999% sure my GF would rather I save the money and get a lab-grown diamonds :s13:

But like I said previously, be mindful of the difference between synthetic diamonds (or lab-grown diamonds) and diamond simulants. While we are all accustomed to the traditional jewellers giving misleading information on the good old naturally-formed diamonds, don't believe for a second that all alternatives to natural diamonds are created equal. True synthetic diamonds, especially the CVD synthetic diamonds, are still quite hard to find in Singapore.

Ohh. Simultants and lab grown diamonds are different. I always thought they are the same thing. Thanks for highlighting the difference man!

For academic purposes, since I happen to have a diamond simulant with me. I got this off carousell for a couple bucks some time back.

Video taken under normal room lighting as well as under simulated bright daylight. I actually took another video showing the two under direct intense LED light to try and simulate the usual jewellery shop lighting, but it ended up too overexposed :s13: but it kinda did show that under direct LED light, everything looks shiny and nice.

Thanks. BTW, forgot to mention, I have no idea what the diamond simulant is made from, probably cubic zirconia.

I think most people can easily tell the difference between a diamond and a diamond simulant. (This doesn't apply for lab-grown diamonds though!)

The "fakeness" of cubic zirconia will be quite obvious. It looks like a piece of glass crystal than a diamond.

But they managed to achieve the hearts and arrows in them.

There are actually many kinds, i remember ive seen one years ago where it's CZ coated with some real diamond 'coating', it cost hundreds of bucks and not really dirt cheap.
