Thanks for the reply. I meant advertised as in word of mouth from these forums. :)

Post count limit sorry... :(

Very delicious ASET image, as expected from a JP Super Ideal diamond.

Hearts and arrows are all well-aligned.

A very well-cut stone indeed.

Hi Folks,

Thank you for the information here. I finally made my purchase, 0.42 F VS2 Round Brilliant) at Jann Paul in the end.

I thought it might be a good idea to share these useful links. In fact, choosing the “ideal” setting is much complex than choosing the diamond itself. Good luck to all!

No problem bro. I am no diamond expert but because of this huge investment in buying a proposal ring, I researched on diamonds for more than half a year liao haha. So I am only sharing the fruits of my research.

Just curious bro. Is the "small local jeweller" Artisan Jewellery? Why didn't you consider JannPaul?

Nope, its not. It's a small bespoke shop. PM me if you are keen to find out.

HCA is 1.4 only though.. was hoping for something a little better. I know HCA isnt the end all and be all.. but still..

Nahh bro. HCA is just a number. What is more important is the actual light performance under various lighting condition.

Based on the ASET image, I am sure the stone sparkles and fires like the fireworks on NYE. :D

Plus, you really can't go wrong with JP Super Ideal.

With that kind of an ASET image, you can do away with the HCA lar bro. JannPaul's Super Ideals are all best of the best, A1 quality stones. They did all the hard work for you from sourcing to inspection. You just have to pay money haha.

However, an honest sales exec from JP told me if I have the extra cash to splash, by all means go for the Super Ideal diamond. But if budget is a constrain, go for an Ideal diamond. This is because some diamond, just because it did not meet one single criteria for being Super Ideal, it is demoted to Ideal. In this kind of borderline cases, even those guys at JP couldn't tell if two diamonds are Super Ideal or Ideal. This has happened to me, and I was lucky. :D

Hi, may I know which staff served you at JP?

Thanks.

Hi all,
Went to JP last week and service was as excellent as it was advertised.

I had my heart set on Octagon cut but not many stock were left.

I got quoted the following for SIC:

1.10 F VS2
$16,100

1.04 F VS1
$16,200

Any thoughts? noob here...

Here are a few prices quoted from JA, before any taxes:

1.04 F VS1 HCA 2.4 = $15,309
1.04 F VS2 HCA 1.8 = $12,528

1.10 F VS2 HCA 3.7 = $13,842
1.10 F VS1 HCA 3.7 = $15,553

If you factor in the HCA score, GST, and a premium that JP charge for their Super Ideal diamonds, I would say JP's price is really very reasonable.

Not to mention, JA doesn't have ASET scopes. The most they have is the Ideal scope but its not enough to give a full picture of the diamond. WF will be a better comparison. At least they show all the scopes for their ACA range.

WF
1.03 F VS1

S$16,850

1.05 F VS1

S$17,200

1.12 F VS2

S$16,150

Factored in GST already. JP gives a better deal.

Thank you so much for this. Honestly, this thread (and previous versions) has such a wealth of information. The experts here should consider making a FB group page or something. :)

Haha none (or most) of us here are no where near "experts".

I guess we are speaking through our experience from buying a proposal ring.

You know la a proposal ring is never a small investment. So need to do some self-research.

Like bb_100 has spent half a year researching on diamond alone. I believe most of the contributors here spent roughly the same time reading online articles, and physically surveying at jewelry stores before the actual purchase. A couple of my friends even downloaded research articles to read on diamonds. :s22:

And of course, we all started off as noobs. :D

I have not made a trip to jp yet. Not sure which staff should I make appointment with.

From the online reviews I read from blogs and Facebook posts, Joy has the highest rating. She is very patient (and chio). :D

Sam is also super friendly and meticulous.

If you are lucky, you will have Jann the big boss to serve you.

Regardless of which JP staff you made appointment with, I am sure you will have a fruitful and pleasant experience.

-edit-
By the way, any specific cuts are you looking at from JP? And your budget?

Yep... and that is why I think the information is so valuable. It is first-hand experience from bros who have no ulterior motive but to help and that have gone through the same thing I am going through.

JA does provide ASET scopes on request. But I'm lazy to request since I'm usually only window shopping online so I just look at the sites where the ASET images are readily available.

I assume you prefer F colour or up and are not looking at G colour. While I heartily recommend VS2 due to value for money, this one does have a feather near the girdle which I would be concerned about. I'm sure JP is aware of it and has nonetheless classified it as Super Ideal, but I would ask to examine it closely under scope, and if necessary, under the high powered microscope, to decide before buying. Perhaps it's minor and not affect the structural integrity of the diamond, but deserves a thorough examination nonetheless.

It does look like the feather extends across the girdle, but it's hard to tell cos the picture of the GIA cert is kinda pixellated when I zoom into the inclusion plot diagram.
