You mentioned the price diff between the two is $300. But which is more ex? I suppose it is the Super ideal? I think it’s really down to your personal preference. Since you have seen both diamonds, do you think you can see the diff btw the super ideal and the ideal? Would u prefer a bigger stone and sacrifice a slight diff in brilliance, scintillation and fire?

Do you also have the ASET scope images?

I would take the bigger rock if I can’t really see the diff, but I believe most people here will go for the Super ideal.

The ideal one is actually more expensive by $300. I have not received the scopes from JP yet. Personally, I found it difficult to tell the difference in bling / light return between the 2 diamonds under store lights but I can tell a slight difference in pictures. The size difference is more apparent though. I am leaning more towards the bigger rock but I guess I'm just worried if the asymmetry would be more apparent in a larger carat size?

You are most welcome! I personally feel that since u can’t really tell the diff btw the bling / light return, then you shldnt worry too much and go with the bigger stone. My suggestion is to also compare the stones outdoor. I wouldn’t worry too much abt the asymmertry (since you would be viewing the stones with your eyes and not the scope images). But if you are really worried then maybe a Super ideal will give you more assurance.

To share my experience, I bought my engagement ring from another stall without viewing any ASET images. Just store lighting and outdoor lights, H&A loupe and 10x magnification loupe (and lotsa reading abt ideal proportions).

Been reading this thread for the past couple of months and made my own way down to JP recently to pick out my engagement ring. I'm having a very hard time deciding between the following two diamonds:

1. 0.83 G VS1, Super Ideal
HCA score of 1.0 (Excellent light return, fire & scintillation, Very Good spread)

2. 0.94 G VS1, Ideal
HCA score of 0.9 (Excellent light return, fire, scintillation & spread)
Ideal because of shallow cut of 32 degrees for the crown angle and slight asymmetry (hearts not exactly the same size)

The price difference between the two is only $300. Any advice on which diamond I should pick? Thanks in advance!

Is the size difference obvious? See which you prioritize more on the size or bling. Another consideration is also what you think your gf will prefer. If she she has small fingers, the 0.8ct will look very big on her. I know some girls if diamond too big, they will hardly wear it. So its see her personality too. Super Ideal is everything perfect swee swee. Ideal is see if you willing to compromise something for the size.

The whiteflash expert selection numbers looks good. And not being an ACA (a cut above) would help to save some $ as well. But you will have to take into account GST and the dollar conversion so it would be roughly S$ 3300.

I assume it's still cheaper than the super ideal at JP?

Looks good to me. You might want to consider a cut above from Whiteflash and CBI from hpdiamonds if u are looking to buy online.

Price reasonable with online, ideal or a cut above hard to tell diff imho all placebo effect.

The whiteflash HCA score is 1.7. But the fire and scintillation grading is only very good. Their ACA range will be better. If I’m not wrong, HOH Ideal is same standard as whiteflash ACA. JP Super Ideal is another level.

Another thing to factor in is the settings and cost for future servicing. Usually local will be FOC for resizing, repolishig etc.

Have u discussed with ur partner before.
Is she the kind who is simple or dressy?

To me JP rings all are already very sparkly and would rather go for the carat.
I have seen friends diamonds on their finger I know the carat size but I think it’s so sparkly that from a distance I cannot even tell the size difference.
But again your partner who is wearing it sees it close up Everyday.
Also, when you compared the size do you think the difference is more prominent or the sparkle and have u compared it under diff lightings or outdoor?

Yes I have seen the sparkle under the different conditions, the size from 0.65 to 0.71 also does not seem to make much of a difference(150 dollars more for the Super ideal 0.71). I am just wondering if for such a size, most people rather go for the Super ideal or Solasfera if there is any distinct advantages?
or does it just purely boil down to preference?

Also, any suggestions for the ring setting? 4 prong/6 prong, white gold, plat or any diamonds or twisted band? not sure and quite new to all these. Basically everything looks good.
