Sure to each own views. Just saying be moderate about it and not 0 technical. Being too technical, allow the seller to push to sell over the budget like those special cuts or other non-necessary area. Its important to visit a shop with a honest seller that sticks to your targeted budget.

JP price is not the best in the town but you get it in other areas

Do share where to get better pricing than JP for the same tier of cut. I've been looking for ages, couldn't find, also there are some fellow forumers like you who says JP pricing not the best, but everytime i ask, none of them actually provided any actual details to back the claim. So please do share, i'm very interested as i buy diamond quite frequently and would love to know of a same quality but better pricing place.

i remember JP buys back their own diamond 100% value, if over 2 years, u just need to pay 100-200 additional for a re-certification cost by GIA.

But this is only for actual JP's diamond, which are those Super Ideal and other premium cuts.

For ideal cuts and below, it's under HOH...and for that i dunno what's the policy for that, definitely not same as JP's policy.

They will buy back at 100% ONLY if u upgrading.

It’s different if u say JP will pay u back 100% of your purchase price, say 2-3yrs down the track, if u decide u DUN WANT the diamond anymore

Interesting, at least something to make them different from the rest, especially since in US there's so many tight competitors.

Not just the US. It could be in the local context too.
Diamonds have poor resale value and no jeweller in Singapore that I’m aware of will buy back your diamonds

Yup, this policy is definitely interesting. Some shop just offer a return value (may exclude setting, tax, etc costs) only upon upgrading the gem.

I cant say for JP now as they are not on sale, but based on their web price few days back. With similar comparison set me about 1k more(as the ring and diamond are separate price).

Personally, I think unless you are getting an investment piece (eg. 2ct, D, Flawless), otherwise, there will not be much resale value as there are too many diamonds in the market already.

Having said that, with the rise of Carousell, perhaps there's a chance you can find a buyer who wants to buy it.
Yes. It's just that I'm coming from the perspective of what if there's an emergency one day. No one buys / receives a ring intending to sell it in the future, unless u r a trader.

But touchwood, what if years down the road there's a recession or both ppl in the couple lose their jobs, need to raise kids pay mortgage etc, then in desperation forced to sell?

It's still one of the factors that may be good to consider - how much can u get back (e.g. 10% / 30% / 40%?) and choosing something within the same budget that hopefully can retain as much value as possible. The difference between 10% and 40% can be 1-2k or more, which in desperate times, can mean a lot.

To be honest, as long your diamond is of a good cut like Super Ideal with scope images to back it up, u can always sell it in places like carousel, confirm can get above 60%, as diamond are forever, can always take it out and mount it onto other ring setting for the buyer.

As for your ring setting, probably can arrange to get it back from the buyer if he plans to remove the diamond and u can pawn the ring without diamond off as it should have a little value in it assuming its 18k gold.

If someone is willing to let go of a JP's standard super ideal cut for 70% or even 75%, i'll definitely grab it if it's within my desired specs haha.

My guess is that the premium cuts like brelia, octagon will have lower resale value. Often if a jeweller buys back your diamond, they might sell it back to the wholesaler. But there’s more market for round brilliants than special shapes

I could be wrong but u can get mooxie to reply since he’s a private jeweller

Assuming we used your 0.45 E VS as an example
- HP diamond has a 0.41 F VS for $2300 after gst, delivered, exclude ring
- Whiteflash ACA, 0.41 F and 0.44 G both VS2 for abt $1800 after Gst

Both I feel will be superideals, plus u get the lifetime buyback from HP diamond.
If u shop around, ring settings can be done for $400-500 for basic designs no small diamonds

Of course doing all these loses the joy of shopping with your gf

I believe is 100% trade-in value for a diamond of higher value. Don't think they will give you cash back .

Side note: Still waiting for new higher carat solarferas, now JP only got 2 in store - 0.90 and 0.91 i think but don't want too near 0.9 de, later drop carat = gg. :( Anyone trading in a close to 1 carat solaferas soon? :s13:

These will be very hard to find. If the stone has potential to be 1ct, the cutter will definitely aim to hit the premium.

Besides, the 0.9ct to 1.0ct is only 0.2 to 0.25mm difference at best
I doubt you can see the difference of 0.2mm with your eyes NOR do u want to pay the premium above 1ct

Side note: someone selling JP solesfera on carousell. Maybe u can get a deal

It's basic economics actually. Anything is only of economic value if there's a demand for it. And in these cases, there are many issues that will affect the economic value. As diamonds are in the luxury category, during an economic downturn, there might not be any value left in it. Unlike gold, which has many industrial uses.

So far from my experience, I can only say people in Singapore (at least those I met), does not like to the idea of owning a 'second-hand' diamond.

Both providers are overseas sale, any resizing etc had to ship back or you trust a local jewelry to do at a fee. Not saying its not good but I would worry a lot eg.ring size, especially for 1st timer. If get diamond alone, also need workmanship fee and buy ring locally at average of 700 at 18k white gold. And is it really necessary to get a super ideal cuts? Its a visible difference if you stare it long enough.

I wouldn’t set overseas. Workmanship more ex and sizing issue. I’ll set locally
Those I quoted are of course super ideals. Would I notice a difference.. I can tell you unlikely unless it’s side by side comparison. The super ideal is really a personal thing

If I just quoted you a triple excellent blue Nile, the price is even cheaper..

Are you sure workmanship is more expensive overseas?

If you shopping the US sites for superideals, then yes.
In general more expensive especially after u add in the gst.

If overseas in Asia or Hk, then I’m not sure

https://www.jamesallen.com/mobile/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.91-carat-h-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-5585855

Here’s a good example of a triple excellent ‘poorly cut’ diamond.
It is cut deeper but if you compare the mm spread of a super ideal vs this, the SIC will always be slightly bigger.
The girdle is also medium to slightly thick meaning some of your caret weight is ‘wasted’. So depends if you want to be anal. But this diamond will be slightly smaller as compared to a comparative super ideal of the same weight.

The Sg price is also only $5600 for a 0.91ct H SI1.
If u been on this forum for a while, u will know that it’s cheap. But it’s cheap for a reason. But if you are only after triple excellent...
