Hi gurus,

Notice a lot of conversation about decagons / brilliant cuts here but not much about emerald cuts. Place a reservation with JP for one of their emerald 2.0s, but would like to seek a second opinion here - not really sure if there's anything else I should be considering.

AGS 104116198072
AGS 104116543031

Should it be looked at the same way as the previous comments on their decagons / SIC? Appreciate your help!

Its ready! 0.714 F VS1 Decagon White Series taken with s10+ under normal room lighting w/o filters:

Damage: $7,400 for diamond, $950 for setting

Hi! Can I have more photos of the setting? I think I requested for this setting as well but was quoted $1.6k, just for setting.

I was trying to find more info about their white series emerald 2.0 and could only find this. Step cut diamonds like the emeralds / asschers are usually less performing than the rounds because of the panel light leakages is very prominent. Even the 'Excellent' of the emeralds are meh when you compare them to the rounds.

27ALaoJ.jpg

JP's white series emerald's ASET looks much better though. It's cut differently than the normal emeralds to get that kind of light performance. I saw the rotational ASET video (I wouldn't rely on the ASET pic on the AGS cert too much as its 'computer generated') of it in the youtube and it looks way better. . Its like the Super Ideal cut of the emeralds. If I'm getting an emerald, I'd go for this. The rest of the carat, color and clarity specs is your own pref. I know JP already filters out those off color hues and bad inclusions. So you can safely choose which specs matches your budget best.

unfortunately my Director said she doesn't want pictures online so i can't share..

Gold prices may have gone up - i know that many retailers are going to increase prices after CNY due to 1. annual adjustment and 2. gold prices.

Your number of melee diamonds also add to the cost of the setting. i only have 4 melee diamonds.

Nice, thanks for the effort to even dig up some diagrams for comparison! I had a look at the ASET (stationary) in person for both, and they are quite similar to those in the video indeed.

Just wondering if the tiny differences (e.g. crown angle, height) are worth being anal about, or I can be confident they're all negligible differences as they're from JP? I've seen some of the earlier comments talking about overly deep cut diamonds etc. and just want to make sure I haven't missed anything.

I was just presented this diamond from JP.
Is this a good diamond? I’m paying slightly more than my budget for this - 7.2k for just the diamond
0.698 ct D VVS1
Was quoted 6100-6800 for 0.66-0.69 E-G VVS2-VS2
they asked if this diamond was okay and it is fast approaching my proposal date so I’m not sure whether to accept it or just postpone my proposal

The proportions is more useful for the 57 facets rounds where people reference it to the Tolkowsky Ideal range. For modified rounds or other shapes, by right they would have their own set of ideal angles. These other cuts, the scope images / videos will be more useful. JP is actually the strictest jewellers I know that have tight ideal ranges and they're very into the cut light performance quality. So you dont have to worry about their diamonds being too deep.

Lol. 0.698ct can be rounded to 0.70ct. And when it's 0.70ct, it will cost much more for the next pricing bracket. You are paying more for the D VVS1 top color and top clarity specs. Though if you compare it with say a 0.70ct G VS2, its gonna cost significantly more than 7.2k for sure. Comparing it with a 0.7ct, this is a very good deal. Comparing it with other 0.6ct++, I think $300 more for a higher color and clarity is not bad.

Price seems right. Dont accidentally compare lab grown decagon vs natural one. Some pricing in this forum refers to lab grown.

Got more info? It depends on the cut, color, clarity grade, type of cert, etc.
For reference, I was quoted in SK jewelry a lab grown 0.71 F VS1 for $3.5k (IGI certified). Yours is almost 1k cheaper. Plus I won't go for IGI certs (better to stick with GIA or AGS). Where did you see your lab growns?
I'm not the person you are replying to but looking at your pricing why would anyone buy from SK. I just got quoted lab grown 2.7k for 0.78 E vvs2 decagon from JP

Dear all diamond shifu, can help me see if this 10HA LG diamond from JP is a good diamond?

A bit upset its a 0.8 flat weight.
view diamond specs here.

Should I be concerned over the multiple girdle areas that have less light return? Is this normal? I viewed a few other ags certs and it seems only this diamond have this 'issue'...

It’s a lab grown. I dun think there’s even a Rapaport wholesale price on it. Meaning there’s not much resale value worth that you dun have to worry abt flat weights

U can’t use a computer generated aset to guage. Even then, I dun see any issues with the girdle

0.80ct is ok. The reason behind the flat carats are the pricing bracket. But even so, that pricing bracket is 0.70-0.89ct. 0.80ct is in the middle so its ok. But anyway, like Miltah said, for lab growns, it doesn't matter. This applies more to naturals. Like a natural diamond 0.69ct and 0.70ct, can have like a 1k cost diff for just that 0.01ct which is not worth it. But for lab grown, the cost diff is like $100 or less?

Dear diamond shifus, @Miltah , @greenerpasture thank you for taking the valuable time in reviewing the link. I've gotten some scope images below. Is there anything wrong with the scope images? From what I can tell, they look like there is brightness, contrast and doesn't seem to have light leakers but as a beginner, I trust your judgements and opinions more than my own.

Hope to receive some feedback .. diamond is a 0.8

JP applies the same standards n cutting on their lab growns so there’s nothing to worry about. It’s value for money
Plus it’s a “fatt” Caret weight. Flat weights dun apply to lab growns

Hi Diamond Gurus,

I have been reading around and pretty much information overloaded.
Understandably, it's almost impossible to get an apple-apple comparison.
Nonetheless, I have narrowed down my search to the following 3 products.

cTMEM9g.jpg

Considering the flaws on each respective 3 options, I would like to seek your opinions on its worthiness.

Example, for:
Option 1, does the faint fluorescence and 62.3% depth worth paying $6051?
Does Option 2 really worth the $1k difference?
For Option 3, is $6269 worthy for the few clarity characteristics as listed?

What else do I have to consider?

Appreciate your inputs.

I'm not a diamond guru, but will chime in my inputs based on what I've researched so far.

Option 1
- The proportion is out of the ideal range. The crown is too steep which I believe is causing the depth to be over the ideal range. This is a steep deep cut where the diamond is abit too long? The diamond is gonna look abit smaller when compared to others of the same carat weight.
- Note that this will affect the overall light performance too like the fire, scintillation and brilliance.
- Faint fluorescence is subjective. Some might not like it because it risks the diamond turning milky when outside under sunlight / uv light. Usually ppl going for good specs will prefer not to have it as it counters the attributes of a good color/clarity grade.

Option 2
- Everything looks good so far. Proportions are all ideal.
- But you will need to further confirm the light performance with the ASET scope.

Option 3
- Doesn't have ideal proportions (similar to option 1).
- The clarity characteristics of this one is abit more complicated. Internal graining is one of those less desirable types because it can affect the light refraction. In simple terms, it can affect the way the diamond sparkly and how ''transparent'' the diamond is. I think VVS2 is usually ok since its a higher clarity grade. But yours also have surface graining, meaning the graining is on the outside of the diamond too.. I won't shortlist this one.

Out of the 3, Option 2 is the best. Even though they are all the same carat weight 0.77, option 2 will look the biggest based on the dimensions. If option 2 is a true SIC (you will need to confirm it with the scopes), I think 1k more is worth it if its a visually bigger and better performing diamond. That being said, all this is based on the certificate only. Its much more important to have the scopes too. A bad performing diamond can still have ideal proportions.

I believe this is for a proposal ring? If proposal ring, its worth it right from the start. So no regrets and it won't bug you at the back of your mind if keep thinking whether you picked the right one. Good luck!!

JP revealed their cutting process here. The raw diamond to the final polished stage is amazing. Didn't know diamond cutting involves lasering too. Makes me feel like custom cutting another ring from them :ROFLMAO:

Hi, thank you for your evaluation. Very informative for my initial consideration and extended research. I appreciate it.
