Hi bros,

I need help with assembling a gaming system that can handle 1440p gaming at ultra. I am not interested in OC or watercool. Budget's ~2.5k (pc + monitor, accessories not incl). In particular, can i ask whether i should go for gtx 970 SLI (i can increase budget for this) or 1 x gtx 980? Also, can someone recommend a good 27" 1440p? Not keen on amazon or qoo10. Thanks bros! :s12:

If you want a 1440p monitor and not interested in qoo10 then you got Dell u2713h @ 60hz only.

And it cost almost $700. That will definitely blew your budget off.

Thats why qnix is cheaper alternative at half the pricing with higher refreshing rate up to 120hz is a good choice for gaming only. Unless you have other things to connect to the monitor.

Next thing to consider is to go sli or not. What are the games you intend to play?

hi thanks for the fast replies. Not keen on qoo10 or amazon because im afraid of the complications with quality and warranty etc. Hmm if 700, will 2.8k budget be sufficient? Im looking to play AAA titles, e.g. witcher 3, dragon age inquisition etc. Also, i think i didnt make it clear, can some pros help me list a possible system specification according to my budget? thanks man :s12:

hmm 3.5k seems rather extravagant for me. I would stretch my budget to 3k tops. If the budget's 3k, what are your recommendations? If need be, i guess can compromise and lower the quality short of ultra 60fps

Definitely not enough budget.

I do not recommend a list out yet because there are things to consider first before you decide on your purchase. First you are not interested in oc. 2nd you intending to have an sli or single card. All this will take into considerations on whether a b85 mobo or a z97 mobo.

Anyway
Msi z97s sli plus + I5-4690k ~ $481
Gskills Ripjaws 1600mhz 2x4gb kit ~ $115
WD blue 1tb ~ $67
Crucial mx100 256gb ~ $155
Zotac gtx 970 4gb sli x2 ~ $980
Superflower leadex 750w 80+ gold fully modular psi ~ $179
Corsair obsidian 450D ~ $169
LG DVD drive ~ $21
Windows 7 home premium 64bit oem ~ $115
Dell u2713h 27inch eIPS panel ~ $725

Total ~ 3003 buy at tradepac. Diy

Why not just get a i5-4460 chip
128gb ssd
Sharkoon bd28

Could shave off around $200 bucks ~

Thanks roy and jian for the replies! Roy from your suggested build, 3k seems to be sufficient? I am not sure if the build is compromising on anything important. If i should increase my budget beyond 3k, please tell me which part of the build is lacking :) I dont mind increasing my budget, but ofc there should be good reasons. Also, i dont intend to OC so i guess i dont need a k chip.

For 1440p monitors I recommend the usual Korean monitors like Qnix, Overlord, Crossover, X Star or Shimian. Yamasaki Catleap 2B is what I own and its my personal top choice as it overclocks to 125hz(Yes above 120hz) like a dream with a good quality Dual Link DVI cable. However they are now OOS and EOL and so you can do your research choose the rest of the Korean monitors i listed.

However if you just want a branded monitor and a good warranty, I suggest the ASUS PG278Q ROG Swift. Awesome monitor for the price. :)

Hi bro, thanks for the recommendations. Unfortunately, the Asus PG278Q is way out of my budget . I wont be convinced to part with upwards of 1k for a monitor (not even one that screens holographic porn lol). Any case, what are your thoughts on dell ultrasharp? for me, the price range of ~700 is still palatable

Hahaha no prob bro. I just thought that since you are getting a new comp might as well get a new top end gaming monitor which was just launched last month. Monitors can last a long time.

Dell Ultrasharp U2713H is a good buy. Of course its a vanilla 60hz monitor. Unless you are into hardcore competitive gaming it should be good enough for most apps and games. And being as IPS monitor means you get good colors out of the box. And of course you get Dell good customer service and warranty.

Korean monitors don't have those ergonomic options like height adjustments, swivel, portrait, etc...

Also no USB, limited input, no scaler. But I prefer that because all these contribute to the dreaded input lag. Being a single input means no input lag which gamers will actually pay a premium.
