PSA: Don't post important information without a credible source - You will be banned

As titled, and I believe this is quite self-explanatory in the face of what's happening in the world right now.

Spreading inaccurate or false information is incredibly irresponsible.

You will not only go against HWZ and SPH rules, but that of the Singapore law.

Be responsible or face the consequences.

Thank you.

===============================================

Dear HWZ members,

As the HardwareZone forum is a major discussion platform, we would like to remind all forum users that they are obligated to follow the Terms and Conditions of use of the forum platform, as well as the HWZ Forum Content Policy.

It is crucial that each user takes responsibility for their comments and forum posts. The latest updates on Covid or any other significant event are valuable to us all. However, it is equally vital that we prevent unverified false information from spreading within our community. We must all refrain from sharing unverified and speculative comments, falsehoods, and misinformation to avoid any unintended consequences that may arise from inaccurate information. This principle and consideration apply to all topics and discussions.

It is also essential to clearly mark the type of your post you intend to start:-
  • To Post Announcements Based on Credible Reports
Use title demarcations such as [News], [PSA], [GLGT], [GVGT], and other such indicators. Also, ensure that you include sources to further bolster and validate your post.

  • To Share info/image/video from unknown sources
If you're uncertain of the content nature you wish to post, i.e. you don't have a source to credit the information to, unware if the info/media is authentic and hasn't been tampered with, or its from non-credible sources, it's best to demarcate the thread title with an [Unverified] label before you pen the intended thread title. Additionally, please be sure it doesn't violate community guidelines and content policies.

  • To Post Questions for Answers or Feedback
Please ensure that it reads like a question and that it does not look like a statement or a factual point. Proper punctuations and title structuring are important to prevent misinterpretations.

  • To Post An Opinion
If you intend to post a personal opinion or that of someone else, do ensure that it’s either demarcated as an opinion or mention the person’s name in your title before indicating a quote/opinion. It is also good practice to present reasons and sources to support your opinion and avoid misrepresentation and spreading misinformation.
Title Examples:- “[Opinion] Xx Yy Zz”, or “Mr.Potato: Don’t worry, be happy”

  • To Post a Discussion Point
If a discussion point is speculative or uncertain, it should be worded such that it’s not a statement of fact. Use words like “Should”, “Would”, “Could” and other such modal verbs to indicate possibilities in your sentence. It is also ideal to end such statements with a question mark to further reinforce the intention of the discussion point.

Moderators reserve the right to issue infractions and remove posts/threads that might mislead readers and don’t include sources. Depending on the severity of the post, users may be permanently banned too.

Further notes: Posting responsibly during the Singapore General Elections Period
============================================================

Upon the issuance of the writ of elections, please be advised that all of the following discussion types are disallowed for the duration of the election period, and offending threads/posts will be removed: -

1. Polls/surveys of political parties

This means that once it is announced that the election is open, you cannot do a straw poll of how the voters in a particular constituency may vote, whether such a poll is done over the telephone or in person. This is because the poll results might influence the voters.

2. Statements, forecasts and estimates of voting that may affect voting results

3. Political advertisements
  • Examples include any poster, banner, notice, circular, handbill, illustration, article, advertisement or other material that is intended to promote electoral success for political candidates or enhance the standing of political parties.

For any further feedback or concerns, please kindly use the Report Post function within the respective forum post. You may also write in to inform the community manager at hwzmembership@sph.com.sg.

Thank you for making our forum community a meaningful space for discussion and information sharing.
