By "recognition" what do you mean?
By whom? The singapore civil service, the Australian?UK/US governments that PSB's respective qualifications come from?

If you mean academic rigorousness when you say recognition, I suggest you look elsewhere. If you are looking for a government job, I also suggest you look elsewhere because PSB is known for not offering courses from first rate universities. There is a reason for it and we can make intelligent guesses as to why that is the case. :s12:

PSB not uni, is a private education institute, a place to study for a foreign university degree.

You will most likely be able to find jobs if you did your due diligence in scoring well and build a good portfolio.
Generally singapore universities do their part in actively building relationships with agencies and companies (including overseas).
But for private institutes, it is questionable whether they have a strong and dedicated career services.

It is also difficult to get help from your home university, since the foreign uni is worlds apart from you. They also may not be familiar with the singapore industry. :(

If you have already set your mind with PSB, I suggest you take note of these 8 points,

i am not sure what u r gg to undertake w PSB.

My advice is that, if u r heading for engineering, look at other schools, compare their modules and prices. the last time i said sth abt psb i kanna whack by their IBs left n right :s13: alot of modules in PSB for engineering is not needed at all. only becos they can be turn into mere chapters or partial chapters. doesnt mean that study alot modules equates the value for money hor.

Most IMPTLY, u need a da bian zua, so it doesnt matter where it comes from so long the ROI is reasonable and IMHO, PSB ROI is shet!

Hi! I was wondering if anyone who went to PSB and did a diploma applied to do their degree directly in the uni itself? Cuz i'm thinking of doing dip in life sciences then pursue either biomed or molecular bio at La Trobe itself as they say currently molecular bio is part time at PSB but I really would like to do that particular course over bio med. The consultant I spoke to says I can, but from my short experience with two of the consultants there, where I had to hound them for information and follow up requests, I just concluded that they may be infact worthless. And so would really like to find out if anyone has done so thus far? I've even contacted La Trobe itself to check out the facts but they just sent me a brochure -_- but someone eventually promised to follow up and I'm still waiting for that... So if anyone can help me out it would be so awesome!

Really desperate with the dip intake coming up soon... don't want to be making any bad decisions here :/

Not sure about getting their own diploma and enter their degree offered by La trobe. But I am pretty sure it is fairly easy to enter their degree with a local polytechnic diploma with a moderate result, cGPA>3.0.

I am pretty lost on where i should continue my life science degree because NTU and NUS is out of the question.

my view

I am currently awaiting admission into La Trobe uni deg in pharmaceutical sciences in Sep,having screwed up my poly diploma so local uni is out of the question. I feel that a local life science diploma is a better option than private diploma, as at least your qualifications are recognised by employers.

Having said that, I am not sure whether admission to La Trobe uni deg in pharmaceutical sciences can allow me to command a higher salary than my peers who only holds a diploma, so I guess I have to take a step at a time and wait and see ba.

I won't really trust any of the PEI's consultants, i doubt they are professionally trained in career and admissions counselling, probably out to make sales.

Since you don't have a diploma, I suggest you go apply for a part time polytechnic diploma,

I think UniSIM have 2 types of part-time biomedical engineering programme (honours),

I used to work in both one of the appointed agencies of Australian universities and also in one of the PEIs. It was a long time ago.

I assume you mean transferring from FOUNDATION DIPLOMA IN LIFE SCIENCES in PSB academy to Bachelor of Biomedical Science.

here is what you can do:

1) Send an email to PSB's sales people, and ask them if there has already been students whom have already gain direct entry into La Trobe's B. Bio Med and if they can put you in touch with these students

2) As for the pending reply from La Trobe, they have always worked too slowly. Just have to keep waiting but they they will get back to you eventually.

4) What kind of intake you are looking at? The next IDP open house is on 12 to 13th August. La Trobe would usually fly in a rep there. Having first-hand info is always different.

Let me know if you have other queries.

Thanks guys for your replies! Really appreciate it! I'll post further updates if I find anything out! Thanks!:)

@firsttimebuyer

Hmm those are good ideas! I will definitely check out the open houses. As for emailing I doubt I'll ever get a reply from PSB sigh... Also La Trobe did get back to me with one of those standard replies where they suggest I apply under the transfer student. Still pretty vague...Thanks for this tho!

@intime

Yeah my "so called" consultant vanished from PSB and I had been emailing a zombie -_-...later found out he resigned...I didn't even get assigned a new one.

Hmm the thing with part time diplomas are that they take a longer time to complete...But I'll check it out thanks!:)

You may want to consider just going straight to one of the assistant managers at PSB....the consultants there will hate/fear you if you do that but you would get replies faster.
