Always tell my friends don't save on PSU. Probably the most underrated component that many don't realize.

I've heard of many horror stories of faulty PSU frying other components in the PC like the MOBO and GPU but did any of you guys actually experience this before? I thought a faulty PSU would probably just die and cuts power off and that's it.

There are a few cases. Yes if a poorly made psu it can cause your pc to fry together.

In the event of a failing PSU, the output protection circuitry MUST function as design in order NOT TO Kill other component.

My Silverstone Strider 850W Modular PSU lasts for more than 8 years, earlier than 2008, bought 2nd-hand from Garage Sales, and serve through the following systems:

1) Intel Core2Duo E8400 (3Ghz) | ASUS Maximus Formula (Intel X38 chipset) with 2x Sapphire HD2900XT Crossfire.
2) Intel Core2Duo E8400 (3Ghz) | ASUS Maximus Formula (Intel X38 chipset) with 2x HIS HD4890(1GB) Crossfire.
3) i7-3770k (3.5GHz, Turbo Boost @3.9GHz) processor, ASUS P8Z77-V-DELUXE mainboard and Kingston Hyper-X 2000MHz DDR3 8GB Kit Rams(2GBx4) and a single Military Class III grade/quality MSI R7970 Lightning Twin Frozr IV 3GB graphics card.

The PSU is still going strong without any hiccups.
