Hi all,

I am planning to purchase a laptop and after comparing the prices between Singapore and USA, it is obvious that the prices in USA and amazon are much cheaper.

I am only worried about warranty issues and am planning to purchase a laptop from Amazon or USA sites and then purchasing international warranty.

Any of you guys have done it before and can tell me which brands are the best for doing this?

I am thinking Asus or Lenovo.

Regards

Using a forwarder like vpost is a must because Amazon prevents you from directly purchasing laptop and shipping to Singapore.

I am trying to purchase the laptop via a friend in USA. Will be cheaper this way.

I think it is more that the brand itself is restricting Amazon from shipping to Singapore. If Newegg can ship to Malaysia, how much more difficult it is to ship to Singapore?

Shipping to Singapore for these cases does require a 3rd party forwarder but be careful some brands even does not allow 3rd party forwarder's address to be ship..:)

I agree getting a friend from US to ship it to Singapore is still cheaper than buying locally, just make sure you choose those with international warranty ones. Good luck...:)

Without a friend to bring over, you will need to pay extra 7% for GST since it is over $400. That will take away most of the savings

Be aware: There are rumors out there that Lenovo SG will only acknowledge your warranty claim if you can proof that you have make the purchase of the ThinkPad in US (if you order from US website) or anywhere in the world (except SG) with proper receipt and not by any 3rd party forwarders.

I do not know how true is that rumors to be. So please exercise caution if you decided to use a 3rd party forwarder.

Yeah, general feed back of ASUS acknowledging their International warranty is overall quite good. But I like ThinkPad more :)
