Why not?

The hype over Ryzen 3000 is for the cost performance in mainstream market but what you buying isn't mainstream, is one of the highest end.

Well I'm hoping this upgrade will last me for 10 years, which my current one did. And I'll only need to upgrade my GPU along the way.

I personally do not like the crippled threads on the 9700k. They may be useless in gaming but at this price point, I figured why not just pay a little more for the 9900k.

Also, the vrm on the Elite is exactly the same as the Ultra.

I don't see it as crippled threads. For gaming, it's proven equivalent or better than the 9900k with hyperthreading. Also, most of the stupid exploits with Intel processors all relate to functionality with hyperthreading. Moreover, you deal with less heat and better overclocking headroom with better core frequencies at lower voltage. The additional threads hardly do anything for gaming if you're looking at a purely gaming CPU.

No worries.
This should help you further if you are really only intending to game and want to stick with Intel. As you can see even with AMD having 16 threads, the 9700k with 8 threads is faster in gaming. Yes, it's not as power efficient as AMD but it's faster for gaming at 1080p. At 1440p and above, either CPU isn't gonna make much difference really.

Scroll to 21 minutes, you'll see that the reviewer mentions that if gaming is your sole intention without much productivity work, get the 9700k. But I should caution you that the Intel platform is not very upgradeable compared to the AMD. So if you wanna future proof, the AMD is a better investment.

i will buy amd just because the intel chip is manufactured badly, temps are like ****.
Also the built quality.. the ryzen cpu on hand just feel way more solid.

Anyway trust me amds 7nm has a lot of potential compared to intels 14nm which they have exploited till the limits, this is just the start for amd.

And hopefully ryzen 4000 will also be compatible with older motherboards, they are releasing in 2020.

Yes, I'm sticking to my current GTX1080, right now I'm just thinking about upgrading my cpu.
I'm not just looking at the cpu alone. I'm comparing motherboards too.
Ryzen 3700X + a decent X570 is about $800+
I7 9700K + a decent Z390 board is also $800+

Comparing gaming performance between these 2 intel wins every time.

Why not consider b450 mobo?

I have considered the MSI B450 Tomahawk + 3700X. But then I looked at the board its got like only 5 usb ports at the back? I'm already using 5 usb devices right now on my system. I might have to buy a usb add-on card for this board. Also, 4 SATA ports is not enough for my current usage.
Overall, the B450s are too stripped down for my usage.

Believe me, I've been looking at youtube reviews ever since 7/7/19. And every time the productivity benchmarks come up, I skipped them coz they mean nothing to me. I went straight for the gaming benchmarks and 99% of the games, intel's still ahead.

And then I check out the prices for Z390+cpu vs X570+cpu, they're quite similar. I just find it hard to choose Ryzen even though I really wanted to.

If u already have a rtx 2080ti and playing at 1440p@144hz , it make sense to go for the end game 9900k.

But right now, the ryzen 3000 has close the gap and will do everything the 9900k can do for your need. Check out ryzen 3600x performance on world of warcraft posted recently, this game is notoriously cpu bottleneck yet it score a comparable fps with Intel 9900k. Anyway, it is pointless to compare 120fps vs 100fps with your current gaming needs.

Somemore Ryzen is more future proof anyway with their x570 board.

Yah but how often do you unrar or unzip? I play also game n watch youtube oni. Sometimes use office.

I game at 1440p 60hz, with a GTX1080. All I care about is my games run stable above 60fps. That extra few frames that Intel has over amd can sometimes help push it over 60fps in some games.

I don't need future proofing. I just need a cpu to last as long as my current one did.

To be honest, I only use those apps when I download patches or files that need to be unzipped. Moreover, this would hold true if you are actually working with very big file archives that are zipped. It is very rare for me or as most gamers who use their PC to only game. I do use my PC for work and media playback at the next very best.

If you are a gamer and a productivity user, then I am inclined to agree. Otherwise, you are not going to tangibly benefit having an additional 8 threads just for this purpose. For that reason, I told TS not to waste on the 9900k because it just is not going to be put to good use at the expense of more heat and lower clocking headroom with increased power wattage. The 9900k is immensely hard to tame the heat especially if you have a bad bin and are trying to overclock.

Go for intel if you are a gamer, most games are optimised for intel, you should know by now.

Agreed. Just go for a 9700K. Don't bother with anything like 9600 or 9400.
