Hi all,
Recently I'm facing an issue where games are laggy, or open/close programs with long waiting time.

Given my pc specs (quite a few years old already).
1. Does it make more economic sense to upgrade or to get a new PC?

2. If upgrading works, what are the recommended upgrades? (if possible. pls include rough estimates on price also)

am able to do diy change, just that i'm not savvy with part's specs, thus requires advise.

1) Download and run HD Tune and use it to check SMART status and scan for bad sectors in HDD, just in case.

2) Name all games that you are currently playing. Also, state model of casing used, the brand and model of PSU used and the model of monitor used.

the most upgrade SSD for significant performance boost. No point upgrading RAM now reason being it's expensive. The CPU is still strong. Its better to wait a year or 2 then upgrade whole system.

If you are planning to upgrade to 8gb ram AND not willing to upgrade to 64-bit(will probably need to reformat), activate PAE for your windows:

http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/override-the-4gb-memory-barrier-on-32-bit-windows-81-systems/

By default win 32-bit supports ram up till 4gb(3.5 usable)

If on a budget and only for gaming purposes, do consider upgrade only to 8GB ram because you really won't really need more than 8. SSD can consider Crucial MX100 because they provide free Acronis software to clone and backup your data and they are decent in performance. All this is based on first hand experience.

Hmm problem is TS wants to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. If so, TS will need to do a clean installation of Windows so Acronis is kinda moot.... TS can instead choose to go for the cheapest SSD available or any of his preferred brands.

Oh.. So free software to clone and backup is moot for MX100 512GB @ $290 6 mths ago. That is interesting.. 😮😮😮
