Hi all,

Currently I am using only 2 x 8gb RAM dual channel kit on my X99 platform.

Is it advisable if I add on 2 x 8gb RAM dual channel kit to run quad channel instead of getting a 4 x 8gb RAM quad channel kit? (same manufacturer and spec)

From my limited knowledge, quad channel kits are tested to run compatible as a kit.

Any risk if I use 2 packages of 2 x 8gb dual channel kits (for quad channel) since the 2 packages havent been tested together?

There is no risk if you intend to run 2x 8gb.

There is no need to run quad channel if you do not need.

But why would you buy a x99 and run 2 slots of ram only?

I wasn't familiar with memory configurations previously.

I guess it's fine to mix 2 kits of same specs ram then!
