Query on booting up using external SSD

Not too sure if this is the correct place to post this question but I need some help on it.

My old desktop boots up with a Sata SSD and launches Windows 7 with it. Recently, the graphics card is spolit and I have a bought a new laptop.

I have also inserted the Sata SSD into a 2.5" external enclosure with USB cable attached. Is there any way I can just plug the USB cable into my laptop and attempt to boot up into this SSD with my new laptop? (Assuming I can arrange the primary boot up sequence in laptop to USB)

i don't see why not. it's the same as booting from a usb flash drive.

dont think u can do it this way, both set of hardward (laptop/desktop) is different
you can do it on a linux but not a window

my 1st thot is even linux cannot. if say ubuntu already installed on hdd/ssd, take out of pc put into usb enclosure it can boot? quite remarkable...

last time i used to play around with linux redhat, they have a bootable type of OS, which will load all the driver each time it is use to boot into the OS, thus any PC could work

but if it is already installed, it might not work

well if u are installing from a pc to it, u can use the same pc to use it as a boot drive, den your performance will still be greatly reduced since usb speed definitel no where near sata speed.

next as what others have said, driver support issues. well just u can justify with the plug and play, but its a lot difference when there is an old specs data move to a new one.

For mac, it is a very simple process. Press the Option key during boot up and choose a boot up device. Years back when I was still on Windows, i remembered i tried it on my desktop too. But your system must support the capability of booting via a usb device. Should not be hard, just google for “boot windows over usb”, plentiful of such tutorials around

if you reinstall windows can work. if not may not because diff drivers
