Really meh but got some guy spamming "liumao" every single day no action taken leh. All posts are within the past week.

How is "liumao" different from "Wumao" and "Putinmao"?
you can go ask those liumaos.
maybe can ask the liumaos instead....
Yes, it's recognized by the UN and other countries as part of china's territory. Doesn't matter what pole here in edmw thinks.

Too bad for liumaos...
Liumaos are paid 60 cents
Sorry, me not liumao. you can go google for it.
liumaos should be very angry!!
Liumaos stay away.

That's what the western media have been harping about. But in reality, it's impossible for China to trap Sri Lanka in debt as it's amount is too small...

If you Google around, you will notice that china is the 2nd largest debtor!! Wow!! 2nd largest leh!!

But if you look deeper, it's just 10% of total debt at around USD 3.38 billion... You will also notice Japan closely behind (~3.2 billion). Most of Sri Lanka's loan are private loans...
Wah, liumaos will be triggered by this

wumao is not even a banned word in china. its a new lingo being casually used everyday, as defined in baidu baike:

pNkL9W2.jpg

if ccp governed china already accept it as a common usage then why its being considered here as an inappropriacy?

furthermore, its not even directed at anyone but a trivial reference in general.

i even used this term to flirt with ah tiong chiobu, eg 亲爱的,我充当你的五毛下载你喜欢看的韩剧,今晚来我家一起看好吗?

CCP don't have the wisdom to decide whether the term is acceptable. The mods here have greater authority and knowledge to decide.

thats something interesting to know. the word itself in chinese is not derogatory, its not an issue unless hurled directly at a specific person.

its exactly like the use of “IB”, there’s nothing wrong to address group of ppl speaking favourably for PAP as PAP IBs but wrong to label someone so without proving.

in my case “wumao” was not used as a phase to describe anybody but a generalisation of the concept of people speaking favourably for CCP.

if this amounts to an infraction then its a complete judgement outlawing the use of this word n hwz will be the first in the world to do so. even lihkg, a similar anonymous forum in hong kong, allows the use of wumao amid current power of CCP to shut it down.

would like to draw your attention to following guidelines from dragon:

First of all, unless we have evidence that prove beyond reasonable doubt that a member is (EDMW-lingo) IB or foreign-influenced we cannot tell for sure he/she is so. A member may be merely expressing his/her views. If we wrongly accuse a member without sufficient evidence, we will be at fault and liable for false accusations.

For example, AhBeng dislikes chickenrice and expresses his displeasure for chickenrice. Unless proven that he is a member of duckrice fan club, we cannot judge that he is a duckrice diehard fan. He could be merely expressing his preferences. On the other hand, AhBeng may also accuse AhSeng of being a member of chickenrice fan club because AhSeng said he dislikes duckrice. Likewise, AhSeng may just be expressing his preferences if we cannot establish for sure that he is from the chickenrice fan club.

If we take a step back, it may very well be AhBeng and AhSeng simply having different preferences that is all. As with almost everything in life, everyone has their own personal preferences.

Having said the above, yeah I know it sound rather simplistic but I do hope you guys can understand the underlying message, members' posts and comments on our forums can be complex and innocently worded posts may have deeper politically motivated agendas. Our Moderators are well aware of it and we strive to maintain a neutral platform for everyone to express their views in a civil manner. We certainly do not condone quarrels between opposing factions, members sowing discord or intentionally spreading mistruths on our forums. There is already more than enough polarization going on in our society, we do not welcome users who are incapable of using our forums in a civil manner without hidden agendas, be it politically motivated or not. Although disciplinary actions may not seem apparent to most of you because they are done unannounced, rest assured many disciplinary actions had been taken and our Moderators will continue to do so diligently.

Going forward, please continue to use the Report function on suspicious posts for our Moderators to look into them. And if found to be inappropriate, they will take the necessary actions.

Thank you for your cooperation.

in the context of discussion of concerned posts, wumao has a same meaning as CCP IB. if its not directed against any specific person but a general reference of ppl favouring CCP, then it should not amount to any false accusation.

hope this is agreeable.

Hello mods, wanted to highlight that Wumao is an official term with a wiki page that refers to trolls with hidden Chinese agenda.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_Cent_Party
Unlike **** which really points to an economic agreement instead

obviously there are trolls in whatever side they choose to post on but this isn’t particularly racist or offensive by itself. It’s like calling a person short or tall

I refer to your link copy below:

50 Cent Party, 50 Cent Army and wumao (/ˈwuːmaʊ/ WOO-mow) are terms for Internet commentators who are hired by the authorities of the People's Republic of China to manipulate public opinion and disseminate disinformation to the benefit of the governing Chinese Communist Party (CCP).[1][2][3][4][5] It was created during the early phases of the Internet's rollout to the wider public in China.

The name is derived from the allegation that such commentators are paid RMB¥0.50 for every post.[6][7][8] These commentators create comments or articles on popular Chinese social media networks that are intended to derail discussions which are critical of the CCP, promoting narratives that serve the government's interests and insulting or spreading misinformation about political opponents of the Chinese government, both domestic and abroad.[9][10][11] Some of these commentators have labeled themselves ziganwu (Chinese: 自干五, short for 自带干粮的五毛, lit. 'wumao who bring their own dry rations'), claiming they are not paid by authorities and express their support for the Chinese government out of their own volition.[12]

Authors of a paper published in 2017 in the American Political Science Review estimate that the Chinese government fabricates 488 million social media posts per year. In contrast to common assumptions, the 50 Cent Party consists mostly of paid bureaucrats who respond to government directives and rarely defend their government from criticism or engage in direct arguments because "... the goal of this massive secretive operation is instead to distract the public and change the subject."[13] Around 80% of the analysed posts involve pro-China cheerleading with inspirational slogans, and 13% involve general praise and suggestions on governmental policies.[14] Despite the common allegation of the commentators getting paid for their posts, the paper suggested there was "no evidence" that they are paid anything for their posts, instead being required to do so as a part of their official party duties.[15]

Research by professors at Harvard, Stanford, and UC San Diego indicated a "massive secretive operation" to fill China's Internet with propaganda, and has resulted in some 488 million posts written by fake social media accounts, representing about 0.6% of the 80 billion posts generated on Chinese social media. To maximize their influence, such pro-government comments are made largely during times of intense online debate, and when online protests have a possibility of transforming into real life actions.[14] The colloquial term wumao has also been used by some English speakers outside of China as an insult against people with perceived pro-CCP bias.

My opinion is such that as per highlighted in green it define wumao as someone paid by CCP , then question is do the accuser have evidence that the person being defamed is receiving monies from CCP or just a personal opinion. If that is true, the person(Singaporean) can be consider committing a crime under FICA act. Would accuser stand by his post and give evidence ? Else that is solely defamatory to the person who is just posting his opinion. I wouldn't be surprise one day someone will sue another for the wrong choices use of words.

As mention, if you think the person is really under FICA, just report him to FICA . If he post nonsense, just report him to MOD. End of story

Secondly,
The colloquial term wumao has also been used by some English speakers outside of China as an insult against people with perceived pro-CCP bias.

Does this consider a insult to a person who is posting an opinion or name calling ? In a forum, is that a need for name calling when under discussion in a forum? Just an opinion

it may not be all fair to compare wumao with ****.

lately i hear a racist slur in coffee shop referring a certain south indian person as a **** zhua, literally meant monitor lizard. the usage was evolved primarily in edwm to insult certain new immigrants. **** sounds homophonic to being “four legged” in hokkien n four legged snake (zhua) is monitor lizard. i will rage if anyone call me a **** in a sentence formed in hokkien as its not just an insult but also very provocative.

wumao on the other hand is a mandarin phase used by chinese here everyday. its also an acceptable way in china to define anyone that champions CCP ideology not just referring to the paid keyboard warriors. its very much like pappies or oppies in edmw being used to denote pro pap n pro opposition camps, a general use of such terms is non provocative unless its meant to unreasonably describe a specific person then only it can clearly be a name calling.

if wumao can be an insult then pappie n oppie will be more so.

again, if its not directed at any specific person then there is no element of false accusation.

for some, it's an insult when they want to get you banned. but when they name call, bait and insult/argue it's their part of their culture and that there's nothing wrong :frown:

you cant do anything when they exist in a greater number to spam reports on you.

sinkies will continue to selfpwn by name calling our local establishment / opposition n respectively their supporters.

while IBs for certain foreign regime / country must be respected by an abstinence to use the word as it may be an insult.

this rationale cannot make any sense.
