Question about HDMI

Hi, does anybody know what gadget would I need for my current situation as describe below.

Currently, my setup consists of 1 laptop, 1 monitor and 1 desktop.

I am looking for a gadget that will enable me to extend my laptop screen to the monitor and when the laptop is not in use, the monitor to display the input from my desktop without needing to plug and unplug the hdmi cable at the back all the time.

Does anybody have any recommendations? I know about the hdmi splitter but from what I read online, it doesn't allow one to extend the screen but only duplicates the screen.

TS, which monitor are you using?
Most monitors can accept 2 inputs, so just another cable will do.

I'm using a cheapo no brand one like this to toggle between 2 desktops and 1 laptop on a single monitor.

Technically the tv I'm using has 3 hdmi inputs, which I used for quite some time. But clicking the physical switcher button to toggle is way faster than using the remote to change inputs. Although once in awhile it will have some glitchy effect, it's quite a cheap device ($4-5 bucks can find) so for the price it's ok.

Been thinking of upgrading to another one in the $20+ range. Maybe like a ugreen one?

check if your monitor got 2 hdmi port? or another port like displayport? then computer use that and laptop use hdmi.

Thanks for the inputs! I settled on buying a Vention HDMI switch since it's on discount at the moment. My Monitor only has 1 HDMI port sadly, the other is VGA which I don't have the cable for. So since the HDMI switch was below $10 decided to go ahead and get it.

Some switch got IR remote control and you can conceal your cables and switch by using remote.

Your laptop -> monitor <- your desktop
Using separate ports..


Change your monitor's source to auto.. it should work already.. unless your monitor only got 1 input..

If both laptop and desktop are on at the same time then you need to switch the source via your monitor osd

I'll hijack this thread .

Right now, i'm using PC with GFX 1060
1 VGA, 1 HDMI and 1 Display port.

My TV is mounted on my wall and its on the opposite of my room

Currently my monitor is connected via VGA.

and my TV is connected via a very long hdmi cable.

I am planning to connect a second monitor.

Any suggestion of how to impove this entire set up? using a hdmi splitter in the previous mentioned posts?
