The smaller hotels maybe. The bigger and more popular hotels can be fully booked over the weekends. Sometimes walk in rate is more ex. I booked JB hotel before. 9am book online at home, check in 6 hours later at 3pm, rate was not bad for last minute.
I was in a JB hotel a couple of years back when I decided to extend the stay by another day. Went up to the counter and was advised that it's cheaper to book online instead, so I went to do it on my phone before going back to them to re-program the keycard.
Cos I duno what hotel to book. I look online is tmi so I tot I just 随性walk in n anyhow walk ard next day go back
Tats what I did in bkk. But not sure if Malaysia can do like tat or not. Bkk many place can stay if u dun mind price
You may want to try hostel from hostelworld. Could be more worthwhile since you only need a bed and showed facility

From my own experience, depends which day/time you're travelling. Worst case just get the VVIP coach, can buy when you reach there, or buy a day before, etc. Melaka Sentral isn't exactly very far from town, can Grab there just to buy your ticket/s.
I think it's always better to buy return trip, just in case having problem in getting a ticket.

I've been going to JB the past month, so often that I'm worried immigration will ask when I'll finish getting my food fix. Strangely, haven't gone via 2nd Link yet, and the desire for Melaka got pushed back as well.
The last 2 times I checked one of the sites, seemed Luxury wasn't going daily for SG>MLK? Think I'll visit their office when I'm ready to head there...
