Malacca (also called Melaka in Bahasa Malaysia) is a wonderful city for nice daytime activities or for a stay of more than one day. There are quite a few hotels and hostels available, but there are also many homeowners who are willing to put their house in Malacca up for rent. The city has many beautiful attractions, all clearly representing the great history of the city.

Co-incidentally, I was just thinking about insurance before my trip 2 weeks back. Been travelling quite a bit to Melaka these couple of years, and just realized that buying travel insurance had never crossed my mind at all. Maybe these are road trips, so I didn't think that much.

In the end, I also didn't buy for that latest trip. =:p

Yes. I do. Even cruise trip I also buy. Only JB one day trip I didnt buy. As long as got overnite I will buy.

Cos coach insurance only covers accident on coach right? I also not sure.

Personal travel insurance covers medical and theft and trip cancellations and etc too.

I ever claimed repair cost for my video camera when it dropped during my trip in Genting.

Ok, thanks.

Another question for malacca regulars. Other than the city sights and food, what are good places slightly out of town but good for a day trip? Go in the morning, come back evening.

Go to Muar. Now less than an hour away. Or visit smaller towns like Tampin or Alor Gajah, especially during Ramadan, for their evening markets.

Any seaside town about an hour or so away from city centre for fresh seafood? If so, roughly taxi costs?

Muar then. By the river. Maybe 30RM fare. You can visit Portuguese Square, which is a little outside Malacca, for seafood. Read the earlier part of this thread.

Pretty much the whole area, including Jonker is smoke-free too.
http://www.malacca.ws/melaka-raya.htm

It is stated somewhere that the whole smoke-free area in Malacca town encompasses 4 sq km. It appears that Melaka Raya is considered a seperate smoke-free zone, part of the 338 hectares in the whole state. Yet another report says property owned by individuals are exempt. There is no map or boundary drawn anywhere. The Equatorial is technically outside Melaka Raya. As usual, lots of hearsay and guessing.

I like that they're really go green, for the smoke-free effort and no plastic bags on weekends.

Hatten is fine. Rather assessible ti malls n walkable distance to jonker street.
This hotel is frequent by many tour group, hence can b crowded.

Can consider WTS / Luruxy which stop by hotel itself.
There are other coaches such as 707 / Five Stars / Delima / Starmart that have departure to malacca...

Guys, need your help.

I have booked equatorial and also booked coach to equatorial and back. If i change hotel to Hatten, will it be a straight forward change for the coach? I book through easybook, will the coach i am taking to equaorial also go to Hatten? So i just call easybook to get them to change? Wanted to call but their office close now. Btw, going there is taking lapan lapan and coming back taking luxury coach. Thanks.

Easybook either doesn't allow changes or will charge $25, I can't recall which. You can check the email confirmation to see if they've stated any terms.
But no harm asking them, anyway.

Luxury calls at Swiss Gardens Hotel & Residences, Casa del Rio, and Equatorial. Not heard of them going to Hatten.

Anyway. The distance between Equatorial n Hatten is walkable. Very near, ard 5min.
The coach will pass by Hatten (on ur right) before it turn left to Equatorial.

Thanks, guys. I was thinking whether to equaorial or hatten, it is the same bus i am taking so should be able to change. But, yes, i will call tomorrow.

Now undecided between equaorial and hatten. Equatorial i booked already but free cancellation if 3 days before arrival. Thinking of going ahead to book Hatten which is also cancellable 3 days before but they already charge 1st night fee as deposit which i suppose if cancel 3 days before arrival, they will refund?

Anyone knows for hatten , what is the cost of 3rd person with extra bed and breakfast? Can't find info at their website.

Also, been reading reviewsof hatten seems many find the breakfast too crowded, and food so-so. Review for equaorial breakfast is consistently good though.

Any comments?
