Hi,
Budget airlines especially scoot and tiger are known for a lot of delays and problems. If we take budget airlines, we have to be mentally prepared for this kind of problems. I was wondering if it is possible to use travel insurance to cover such that if anything like this happens, we can quickly remedy it with minimum financial loss.
Long Delayy
Sometimes the flight can delay for 48 hours. If we are caught in this kind of situation, we will keep waiting and waiting not knowing when we can actually board the plane. If we have already been waiting for 8 hours, we shouldn’t be waiting any further and just buy another ticket and swallow the loss. Is there any travel insurance policy that allows us to claim for the new ticket that we buy on the spot? Or is there any policy that gives $1000 for 8 hours of delay? Budget flights are usually within asia, so $1000 should be enough to buy another single trip ticket
Re-routing
For example, we are supposed to fly to Beijing, but due to bad weather, the plane is forced to land in Hongkong. The budget airline is not legally obliged to offer any compensation as they can claim that bad weather is act of god and is not their fault. And they will also not fly you to your intended destination. We will be stranded in HK and will have to buy another ticket to BJ. I called 2 insurance companies and they say this is considered re-routing and they don’t cover re-routing. They do cover cancellation, but since plane already took off, this is not considered cancelled flight. Does anyone know of any policy that cover this kind of scenario?
The easy solution is to avoid budget airlines. But sometimes the price difference between budget and full service airlines can be quite significant. (Want cheap want fresh)
Anyone knows?
