The interlocking is tight. Normally no water can slip thru. The problem is the edge. The water can slip thru and go underneath. The vinyl tiles will not touch the wall. There will be GAP and they normally use skirting to hide the GAP.

The ants or insect will have party. Dirt normally stuck there.

Ahhh so as long I keep away from the edge I should have no worries about water seeping in right?

Coz I have sweaty feet. And sometimes sweat will accumulate if I stay at a particular spot for long when it's damn hot. Lol.

Then the edge how u all do general cleaning? Can only use vacuum and try to suck out whatever dirt.

Thanks!

Usually, silicone will be applied at the edges to seal up the gap, not sure why bolster did not mention it. Perhaps his was not applied, but I think you can ask for it. Gaps might still form due to aging of the silicone after a few years, but you can always reapply on your own (very easy and cheap), or pay someone to do it for you.

Even if that still makes you concerned, well, I have sweaty feet too, and I think based on my own life experience, there is very very very low chance that one would step every extreme edges of the house so frequently. Even if one does, perhaps near to the window, no matter how sweaty the feet are, the sweat would not form a puddle within minutes to seep through, should there be a hole/gap.

You should be more concerned if rain would splash through your windows, when there is monthly washing of your corridor by TC if you are staying in HDB, or water spilling while washing at the sink.

I do not recommend using vinyl flooring for toilets however.

Hi Pokémon, thanks for the insight. So I guess vinyl isn't recommended for kitchen as well since there is also where the sink will be, so higher chance of water getting into the edge.
Rain shouldn't be a problem I guess as it will most probaby splash onto the inner part of the house rather than the edge.

There are people having vinyl flooring in their kitchen too, and happy with it. As long as silicone sealants are applied, you should not be overly concerned. You can always have a kitchen mat at the sink area, and have some cloth nearby to wipe off spills immediately if you notice any. It is not as if puddles of water would form at the kitchen floor area whenever you wash anything at the sink.

Again, it is only toilets that I do not recommend having vinyl flooring.

Well, you know your house best. Splashes are through the window ledge, and would most likely also drip down from the walls, like waterfall if super heavy rain and you forgot to close the window.

Well, mine confirm did not put silicon. They put skirting instead.

We have wall seepage instead and when the contractor remove the skirting, that is how we knew it.

Well, don’t use skirting instead then. Or get a reliable contractor.

Even with skirting, you can always have the silicone sealant applied to the gap between them, as seen below, from a post here.

Does anyone have issues on gaps between your vinyl tiles? I’m seeing more and more gaps appearing on my floor. And also ageing silicon by around the skirtings.

Any recommendations on how to fix them?

Do you know if they are inter-locking time, or glued? You might want to show a photo how bad the gaps are. Some gaps are not really of much concern if the area would only be wet when you mop it.

Silicone, just DIY. You can easily buy the caulking gun and the sealant from Mr DIY. You need to scrape off the existing silicone, before applying. Check out YouTube on how to apply.

To save yourself the trouble, just pay someone to do it for you.
