[QUESTION] ECC RAMS

I want to install ECC Rams into my msi x58 pro motherboard with i7 920. Question is, will it work?

your processor dose not support it also. must see if your mbo supports it also.


i would just stick to value RAMS instead, you said it yourself you don't need it so :)

I understand, but currently I only have ECC rams on hand. So wanted to know if you use the ram this way, will it still boot?

Like might be able to work and just disregard the error checking in ECC and run it as non-ECC memory

put the ecc rams to test will not kill your mobo or the rams.

the most your pc will not boot up.

registered ecc rams won't work
unbuffered ecc rams might work (without ecc functions)

OK so i went and tested the ECC RAMS with my i7-920. Didnt work at all. Hope this can be of reference in case people want to try in future
