Question: Motherboard replacement

For the same CPU, if I replace the current motherboard

(i) with another of the exact same model, do I have to reinstall OS & other software?

(ii) with another of a different make & model for the same chipset, do I have to reinstall OS & other software?

(iii) with another of a different make & model with a different chipset from the same plateform (e.g. B660 to Z690 or B660 to B760), do I have to reinstall OS & other software?

Probably not. I swap OS SSDs between different CPUs/MBs and they still worked fine. YMMV as I recall this did not work for some people.

May need to register software again and update chipset drivers.

i did all 3 before on windows 10 and 11, all can use as normal stable

if you lazy can go device manager and unhide devices then manually uninstall your older devices. this will keep your installed sw.

i think now windows update for those H2 H1 big features updates, is effectively they do in place reinstall the whole OS

1) don't need do anything cos the drivers are identical.

2) apart from the small stuff like maybe usb drivers or audio drivers because the device on the mobo changed, the rest don't need to be reinstalled.

3) best to reinstall.

Best to do a clean install especially if changing from one motherboard to another.
Some say no need to install, it can work but how long it remain stable is another question.
Anyway clean install won't take too long, maybe an hour or so.
