Question on export set and ida approved set

Hi, went by a shop in bedok today and was told that there is stock for the note 2, only $960!

So i asked if its local set with warranty and the person told me it is. And she also said theres 3 kinds of phones
1. export set with no warranty
2. IDA approved sets with local warranty
3. Local sets with warranty (dunno what the hell this means)

So anyone can enlighten me if shes scamming me or is there such thing? $960 seems too cheap. Even lower than retail when demand is so high now!

all sets come with warranty, the difference is whether its local or not.

export sets are usually imported from other countries thus, they do not have local warranty with the authorised service agent.

But the shop can give you their own warranty. Therefore there could be export sets with warranty.

Moreover, even if you have warranty in the country of export, you cant simply mail in. you need to be present for authorisation.

In general, no point buying export sets. If you can afford a few hundreds for a phone, you can afford a few more hundreds for a local set.

The problem isn't a few hundred for a phone. It's the phone just isn't available in Singapore - at any shop or Telco.
If later, the phone does become available in Singapore (hopefully), then I think(hope) I can just pay to have a phone fixed - like the warranty expired.

I CAN simply wait for the phone to arrive at a telco if I thought it was coming.

for export sets that u buy from shops, forget about the warranty from the manufacturer overseas. first, u don't have the proof of purchase from the overseas manufacturer directly. second, there's a question mark whether those sets sold by the shops originally came with factory warranty from the overseas manufacturer.

Just take it as no warranty.

i think some shops may offer "shop warranty"... take it with a pinch of salt. not sure the exact T&Cs of the shop warranty and how they honor it. As these shops do not have proper servicing backup, u do not know if they really help u bring back to the singapore service center to fix the problem, or just simply get someone off the street to replacement the parts with non original ones.

But is it possible to have a phone fixed in Singapore without a warranty? Just pay for it? At a Samsung service centre for example?

no worries, just sharing what i know (hopefully i'm able to provide the right answers). there's no such thing as a dumb question please

i think samsung will fix the phone in general as long as it's not stolen, modified, rooted etc.
