Question on Graphics card and i7

Hi

I'm currently using a gigabyte H61M-USB3-B3 i5-2400 3.1ghz system.

Currently i'm doing some video editing and its really heavy on my computer as it slows it down very drastically and takes very long to export the final project (8 hours or more). I leave it overnight to do the exporting.

My question now is, what should i change to speed things up?
Should i
1. Get a graphics card?
2. Change to a i7 or sth faster?
3. Upgrade ram?

I dont have a lot of budget, so if i have to choose 2 from the above, which one will make the most difference?

If specs is based on what your profile wrote, i'd recommend getting at least 8gb ram. 2gb is way too little for video editing.

so graphics card has lesser impact on video processing than a faster processor, thats what you're saying right?

if its upgrade to i7, any specific i7 model? coz i go down to sim lim, theres so many to choose from..

I7 4770 or 4771 and may want to upgrade to 8gb of ram

Get a 16GB (8x2) RAM kit and a 3770 (so you don't have to change your mobo). The 4770 is hardly any better and it requires buying a new mobo.

If you've only got enough money for one purchase, get the RAM kit.

so if i get a 3770 i wont need to change a motherboard.

seems like ram is the main thing for video editing. A graphics card really makes no diff?

3770 to 4770 got very little performance gain but because you change motherboard, you may get better features like more usb3.0 inputs and more sata 3(6gbps) slots.


so depends if you want to get a better upgrade or something.

but bottom line is:

1) i7 processor
2) 8-16GB of Ram
Graphic card only helps in giving you more color details, image details and accuracy.

graphic card is very important if you do 3D things on software like MAYA.

Actually if ts is using cuda-optimised video editor software, getting nvidia cards does help more than whatever cpu out there.

GPU is the last thing you might wanna consider to change.

1st is get the 3770.

2nd 16gb worth of rams.

3rd check the OS, must be 64bit to use the 16gb rams.
