question on psu

i am getting a new rig but using back some old parts like my psu

is there any special precaution to take when moving my psu from old rig to the new one??

wouldnt want to accidentally short circuit lol

turn off and remove the power source first before disassembling.

don't drop any objects into the psu.

Best to get a new PSU at least with Gold 80Plus or Platinum rating, more efficient power, and probably from a good brand like Seasonic or Corsair. I see some of the PSU now like 7 years warranty. PSU is at the heart of your whole PC, really need to spend a bit money to invest in this.

A good PSU goes a long way. A friend had a major power surge in his home, took out his 1 year old fridge. PC still humming along fine with the help of Seasonic.

I can vouch for Seasonic, after 5 years, still going strong powering all my new parts.

A Gold rated PSU is already more than enough for a non mining/ folding/ SETI/ encoding/ running247machine. Buying a Platinum rated PSU @ <600W for daily surfing/ downloading/ gaming/ video/ prawn machine is a waste of money. How many hours do an average user uses his/her rig? A 95% or even 90% solution is usually more effective than a 99% solution.

Finally, high efficiency rating != high build quality / reliability all the time.
