I am working on a project to automate the sim card registration process and since I have never been in the telecoms industry, I haven't the slightest clue as to how the process of registering a SIM card is like. I'm hoping someone here who has gone through the process can shed some light for me and maybe the rest of the community who may be interested.

I understand that in Singapore each individual can only register 3 SIM cards so they use the Terminal Device (TD) to scan the ID to possibly check the status and maybe register it.

So here are my questions:

1) What does this TD actually do in detail?
2) What software does it run; or does it just load information through a browser?
3) What database does it connect to? Is it a central database?
4) What is the registration process like?
5) How to obtain a TD?

Thanks in advance!

P.S.

Something for your to read about;
Regulatory Controls on Prepaid SIM Cards from 1 Nov 2005 - Singapore Tightens Security Controls and Update
The Mandatory Registration of Prepaid SIM Card Users

Registration and activation process are both done at the same time.
Meaning that Telco will registered and activate the Prepaid SIM card for immediate use.

However if there is any active Prepaid SIM card you want to de-activate you must do it yourself at the Telco selected shops.
Therefore it may not be physically submitted electronically to the Authority in-charge but more on delay.
So far if the Prepaid SIM is expired it may be auto deactivated after a certain period.

Why don't you purchase the Prepaid SIM card to see how they process in front of you and ask.
And buying the 4th Prepaid SIM card at different Telco to test how effective if you are allowed to purchase & activate for use at that instance.. and may be deactivated if detected as 4th active Prepaid SIM in your NRIC.. for the purpose of your project.

Alternately you could write to IMDA and those Telco with Prepaid SIM to enquire about this matter.

Note:
Should be in the main Mobile Communication Technology section as there is no Prepaid section but there is a Prepaid thread.
