Hi all,

Planning to go Japan in march, but I am stuck at their transportation.

I will land in Narita airport.. will be staying in tokyo for 4 nights, Ito for 2 nights and lastly Atami for 2 nights before heading back to Narita airport to singapore.

What pass should i get? Should i get a JR wide pass? Can the JR wide pass used internally in Ito and Atami?

Thanks for the help!

Suggest you do your sums with Hyperdia on the train costs. You have 4N in Izu. Tokyo Wide Pass is only good for consecutive 3D usage, whereas JR East Pass is good for any 5D unlimited train trips within two weeks.

Both passes can be used on the train routes served by Odoriko Limited Express trains and Izu-Kyuko Line.

Internally? Meaning bus routes?

Thanks for taking time to reply. It helps.
Yea, referring to bus route in Izu, as I read from somewhere that some places in Izu have to take their bus.

Yup, if you're not going to take the shinkansen, I don't recommend you buying JR Pass. Local trains (including limited express trains) are much cheaper when compared to the shinkansen.

Do remember to get an IC card (e.g. Suica or Pasmo) when you reached Tokyo! It works like our ez-link card. Save you a lot of time buying single fare tickets all the time.

I did 11D in Izu alone two years ago. Depends on where you’ll be heading to. Both passes DO NOT cover bus services.

Ito - cash only for bus services. Neighborhood is within walking distance from the station. You’ll need to take a local bus to Marine Town.

Atami - I walked to most of the places. Only when I’m tired, I took local bus using IC card. If you’re heading to Kinomiya Jinja, you can take a bus or train (just one stop away). The bus stops in front of the shrine; you’ll need to walk about 5-8 min from the station.

Wow! 11D in Izu! Can you kindly suggest places to visit for Ito and Atami?

Is it cheaper to get this or every places are walk-able. I do not mind walking. - https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2358_007.html

Atami will be my last stop and I want to visit Hakone and Gotemba before heading back to Narita airport.

So all in all, after seeing your reply.. My plan will be getting the JR East pass, since it is flexible 5 days. it's a must to use on the first and the last day. 1 day to go to disney sea, 1 day within toyko. 1 day when i travel down to Ito. 1 day for Atami.

is that feasible? Thank you so much for your inputs.

Don’t bother with the Ito Free Pass. You’re heading there for 4N, not 2D1N. It’s only good if you’re traveling down from Shinjuku and back again. It includes the Odakyu trains back to the city.

I won’t use it for Disney trip as well. Do your sums with Hyperdia first.

Not a complete report. But my pictures are in another facebook group. Details of the places I went to are in the pictures.

Shout out here if you’ve got more queries. I traveled alone so my itinerary might not suit you and your family.

Is it with JR pass there is no way to book the seats in the shinkansen in advance? Must that day go and reserve on the spot?

The jrp must be presented during reservation at the counter.

I usually plan my routes and trains and just reserve them once I get into downtown.

Shinkansen tickets can be booked in any of the JR Ticket Offices, not just the one you are travelling from. Look out for the JR Ticket Office called Midori-no-Madoguchi (green logo)
