Hi all,

My Creative Creative Inspire 5.1 5300 has been working fine for over 12 years and counting largely due to this quick fix. I have experienced various volume control issues such as volume fluctuation, auto turn on/off, etc.

To resolve such issues, I open up the volume control knob and look for the contact point of the knob (see image below). Then I use either 4WD, a few drops of Singer Oil or bicycle cleaner/lubricant (I think any oil based lubricant will work) and then spin the knob a few times to ensure the contacts are smooth.

This resolves the issue all the time for at least 1-2 years before the same thing needs to be done again. Just sharing this. Hope it helps.

Good for sharing.

This is problem can be found on old type/gen type of speakers.

Such as T3 series and before. When i was working there as a IA student, this are very common problems face. Usually what they do is they will replace the entire remote control if it is under warranty.

But since it is a small fix that can be done at home, and if it is OOW period then it is really useful to know.

Now the remote have change and improved ba i guess.

U are probably right. This is a very old piece of hardware. Quite amazingly my longest serving piece of hardware and (ironically) its from Creative. Just putting this up in case this turns up useful.
