Hello bros and sis, need some quick help regarding Tokyo. Will be going there alone during Nov, and it will be my second time there.

1) Any attractions outside Tokyo worthwhile to visit (eg. Hakone, Yokohama etc)? Been to Hakone once but i heard its really nice in autumn ..

2) Any good places to stay that have single rooms? Preferably cheap too!

Thanks in advance! Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

If you are for nature, I suggest that you visit Hakone and Nikko. Yokohama is like another Tokyo but I recommend that you visit the park. It's great there, or watch a concert at the Yokohama Arena? Just for the experience, hehe.

But really, if you're going out of tokyo, better direct yourself to Kyoto. It's like a different world there, and though there are numerous castles around Japan, the ones in Kyoto are like better than anything else. The zen gardens are must visit, and yeah, you just have to walk around kyoto so you can easily say that 'hey, I've had a great experience traveling around Japan!'

as for the hotels, there are many so perhaps you can just find your choice here?

1) If budget is an issue, then due to transport costs, the nearer places out of Tokyo is probably Hakone, Yokohama, Kamakura, Saitama, or maybe Gunma.
There's Kawagoe old town + Omiya train museum in Saitama.

2) There's many hotels with single rooms in Japan. How much is your budget?
If you are willing to forego your own private toilet and use the shared ones at every level, I've stayed at this pretty new hotel for around 3300yen/night (i had discount since they had some sort of promo and plus I stayed for like 6nights I think).
It's your own private small little room with tv and mini fridge.
Located about 6mins walk from Minami-Senju station on the JR Joban line. It's abit out of the way, but I guess this is 1 of the cheapest places to stay if you want a private room and not share bunk dormitories.

Other cheaper accommodations are on my website list which I compiled some time ago here (most have only shared bathroom facilites, so if you are concerned with this, just skip the list I guess):

Hi all thanks for the prompt reply! Appreciate a lot, will check out the recommended places!

yennylee_89: I would love to go Kyoto but as I am only staying 7 days in Japan not sure if it will be a good idea to do so. My friend recommend me to make another trip involving Osaka/Kyoto. Time is more of an issue than money :).

samtcy: Budget is not a big issue but time is unfortunately (7 days!) Very helpful compilation of lodging list! Will check out the hotel and the list (rmb some names from the list) and hopefully pick off some good names with single rooms.

you could also probably try the toyoko-inn chain of hotels. I believe they have single rooms too.

Thank you all! A few more questions, if anyone could help again.

1) Will 1-day trips from tokyo be enough for Nikko/Izu? There seems to be many things to do in the area. Not sure if I could get back to Tokyo within a day after factoring in travelling time.

2) For Kamakura, I think slightly more than half day (Perhaps morning till early evening) should suffice?

Thanks in advance.

If you are going during the last two weeks of Nov, then head to Kyoto. For Kyoto, you can always take a overnight bus to Kyoto from Tokyo, this way you can save on accomdation, then take a plane back to Tokyo(from Osaka) if you don't want to to get JR Pass.

Else, for Tokyo area, JR Kanto pass covers Kamakura, Yokohama, Nikko and also Kawaguchiko. Can consider them.

depends on wat u want to see/do at the place.
i would prefer to have 2 days in nikko, one day for temple/shrine, another day for lake and waterfall. but i think most ppl make it a day trip only.
