There was a time in my journey with the Lord when I had started to take obedience to the Lord on “small things “ lightly.
Firstly, when I found myself in the midst of a conversation that I knew very well the Father would be displeased with because it was gossip in nature, I still went ahead with it simply because I thought to myself that this “was too small, surely my Father cannot cast me to hell for this after I have left all for Him.”
Later when I went to pray I confessed all my sins to the Lord and went on with my normal prayer and again the next day,I found myself in a similar situation where someone was trying to have a conversation with me that involved gossiping someone.
Again,it seemed convenient to just go on with that conversation and again I thought that it cannot be significant enough for the Lord to reject me.
“It is too small and I have left everything to come after the Lord, laboring for Him and seeking His face daily. His blood will cover me,He is merciful and will not cast me out after everything.”
That’s what I thought.
So Satan kept trapping me through conversations he knew didn’t please the Lord and he slowly wanted me to creep in “small sins” and make a habit of sinning.
This went on for about three days.
But on the third day,in the night, the Lord gave my husband a dream.
He woke me up in the middle of the night and told me he had a dream that I died and ended up in hell because of “small sins.”
I was so shocked because I hadn’t told him anything of what had happened.
He said to me,” you went to hell and you kept thinking Jesus will come and get you out.
You kept thinking it’s going to be like the other times when the Lord just wanted to show you something and you kept looking out for the Lord thinking He will come for you,but He wasn’t coming and Satan was mocking you.
And the message the Lord said was that it’s because of things you started considering small sins and let your guard down.”
I was so terrified because I knew exactly what the Lord meant.
I had started thinking I could tolerate “small sins” in my life because the Lord will understand.
The Lord had shown me His love in my life and I had thought,”Jesus loves me,there’s no way He will let me go to hell just because of this small thing.
After all I have left everything else for Him and lived my life for Him.”
But God is holy and there are no small sins to Him.
Sin stains our garments.
Philippians 2:12,”Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;”
God in His great mercy was warning me because He knew the consequences of what I was doing.
I confessed my sins to the Lord and determined to run my race faithfully till the end, with the Lord’s help.
The wages of sin is death, regardless of if you had been righteous before.
If you start to entertain small sins and die in sin,you will still have to reap the same wages as someone who has lived in sin their whole life.
We have to take care of the gift of salvation given to us by Jesus Christ by not turning back to our sins after we have been washed.
2 Peter 2:21-22,”For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.
But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”
The Bible warns that the first shall be the last.
Some people turn to the Lord towards the end of their lives and are saved.
While some people divert from the narrow way towards the end of their lives and lose their crown.
This should teach us to be vigilant and know that even though God loves us so much, still He is a righteous Judge and sin has consequences.
We must not fall asleep but we must live in the fear of God so that we may be found spotless, covered with His blood.
God warns us that not everyone who was initially saved from Egypt made it into the promised land, but those who backslide perished in the wilderness.
We are instructed to not neglect our salvation.
Neglecting our salvation starts by neglecting where our power to overcome comes from;prayer and fellowship with God and easing back into our sins,it involves ignoring sinful habits we are falling back in.
It does not mean we will never ever sin again, but it means if we realize we have sinned in any way by our actions we have to quickly repent and do everything not to commit that sin again.
If we realize sin has become a habit we have to even fast and ask God to deliver us from our sins.
We do not despise the blood of Jesus Christ, thinking we can remain in our sins because Jesus Christ’s blood will cleanse us.
But we value His precious blood and the gift of salvation by remaining righteous, knowing that God’s grace of forgiveness is not a license to sin.
If we think Jesus’ sacrifice enables us to continue sinning, then we deny the Lord and He is not our Master.
Jude 1:4,”For certain men have crept in among you unnoticed—ungodly ones who were designated long ago for condemnation. They turn the grace of our God into a license for immorality, and they deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.”
The freedom that is in Christ is not freedom to sin,but it is freedom FROM sin.
Jesus Christ has power to save us from whatever sin that has held us captive and make us slaves of righteousness.
Hebrews 10:28,”Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?”
Hebrews 2:3,”3how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,”
If you realize you sinned, quickly repent and do everything not to go back to your sin.
If we make a habit of sinning we will perish because it means we take the mercy of God for granted, sinning deliberately.
Don’t take sin lightly.
It’s the little foxes that spoil the vine.(Song of Solomon 2:15)
If you let the harvest be spoiled, everything must be thrown out because Jesus is coming for a pure bride without spot or wrinkle.
Not that they have never sinned before, but their sins are washed away by His blood because they have repented and are no longer practicing their sin.
If you hold on to sin,you will perish.
John 15:1,”I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”
