Good morning, brothers in Christ.

In 1 Samuel chapter 17, the Israelites were frightened and retreated because of Goliath's height and intimidation. Their focus was on the power of their circumstances, forgetting the God who had repeatedly saved them. We often do the same today, overwhelmed by the pressures of reality, the unknown future, and the voices of others, our hearts filled with anxiety, our faith gradually eroded by fear. However, David's declaration in verse 37, "The Lord has delivered me from the claws of lions and bears; he will also deliver me from the hand of this Philistine," reminds us that faith is not about denying difficulties, but about remembering God's past deeds and being certain that He still reigns today.

Today, let us learn to turn our eyes from our circumstances and people to God, relying on His faithfulness to move forward courageously.

Jesus loves you.

A Longing Fulfilled

Bible in a Year: Exodus 4-6; Matthew 14:22-36

They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

Revelation 21:3

pexels-photo-237266.jpeg

Today’s Scripture & Insight:

Revelation 21:1-4

Blaise Pascal famously said there’s an “infinite abyss” inside us that only an infinite God can fill. “You have made us for yourself, O Lord,” Augustine prayed, “and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” As David put it, like thirsty people in the desert, our whole being “longs” for God (Psalm 63:1).

Surprisingly, however, it isn’t only humans that experience longing. God does too. While the infinite God of the universe needs nothing outside Himself to be fulfilled, the Bible says He “longs” to have us back when we stray (James 4:4-5), and repeatedly says He wants a people to call His own (Exodus 6:7; Hebrews 8:10).

For thousands of years this longing has fueled God’s missionary endeavors: sending prophets to win back His straying people and ultimately sending His Son to find His lost sheep (Isaiah 30:18; Luke 19:10). The good news is that in the end, this longing will be fulfilled. “They will be his people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God,” and God and human beings will dwell together (Revelation 21:2-3).

Humans long for God, and no substitute will satisfy. God longs for humans, and no substitute will do. So no wonder there’s rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents (Luke 15:7). When we run to God’s open arms, everyone is fulfilled.

Reflect & Pray

How do you feel about God “longing” for you? How can this encourage you when you need to repent for doing wrong?

Heavenly Father, thank You for passionately longing for me to know You.

You Are Shining

Teresa Milsap (Mississippi, USA)

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. - Matthew 5:16 (KJV)

pexels-photo-16117047.jpeg

While I was taking care of a patient one day, he said to me, “You are shining in this place.” I looked at him in awe. Every day I prayed that Jesus Christ’s light would shine through me so that others would see him. This patient had no idea that this was my prayer, but his comment felt like confirmation that God had heard me and answered my prayer. After hearing his words, I felt the joy of knowing that God had worked through me.

In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus says, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel . . . . Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” We live in a world that is filled with darkness, and as Christians we are to show others the way to Jesus. We are to represent Christ wherever we are. That day I realized that no matter our circumstances we can be the light of Jesus Christ, brightening the places where we find ourselves.

Today's Prayer

Dear Lord, may your light shine in us so that others can see you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Survivors by God’s Mercy

Bible in a Year: Exodus 7-8; Matthew 15:1-20

Unless the Lord Almighty had left us some survivors, we would have become like Sodom.

Isaiah 1:9

1*IKfNJdsecB0Td3Uj94ntBA.jpeg

Today’s Scripture & Insight:

Romans 9:22-29

Charles Joughin was a sailor from the young age of eleven. He served as a baker on a number of ships and, in 1912, got hired on to a cruise ship sailing out of Southampton, England. That ship, the Titanic, hit an iceberg in the Northern Atlantic. As the ship went down, Joughin helped people into lifeboats. He himself stood atop the end of the Titanic as it sunk vertically into the water. Miraculously, he survived.

Thirty years later, during World War II, Charles was on another ship, the RMS Oregon. It was rammed by another vessel, and it also sank. Remarkably, Joughin survived again.

Scriptures tell us we’re all on a sinking ship. Paul writes, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). He refers to the rebellious nation of Israel, quoting Isaiah: “Unless the Lord Almighty had left us some survivors, we would have become like Sodom” (Isaiah 1:9). Paul speaks of a “remnant” of Israel, a shipload of survivors: “only the remnant will be saved” (Romans 9:27). How are they saved? By receiving the good news (10:16). You see, we’re all like Israel, drowning in our sin. None of us can be rescued unless we receive the good news. The lifeboat that God throws out to us all is Jesus.

We who believe in Jesus might need to be reminded of the remarkable truth that we are, by God’s mercy, survivors. Those who haven’t yet found Jesus in the troubled waters of life might do well to climb in the lifeboat.

Reflect & Pray

When have you felt like you’re drowning in life? How do you understand God’s offer of a lifeboat?

Dear God, thank You for Your mercy and rescue

Jesus is the Center

Centering Your Life Around Meeting with God
Allow your heart to be stirred in adoration, worship and devotion to the only true King this world has even known.

shepherd-jesus-christ-walking-with-sheep-in-wide-meadow-silhouette-with-brilliant-sun-sunset.jpg

Scripture

Introduction

Like we said at the beginning of the week, this life is marked by a single choice: who or what will we center our lives around? Today we will look to the person of Jesus Christ. He is the first and the last; everything was created for him, by him and through him. To center your life around anyone else is futile and empty. As we look to Jesus today, may our eyes be fixed on his eternal goodness and glory. Allow your heart to be stirred in adoration, worship and devotion to the only true King this world has ever known.

Devotional

All of eternity centers around the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. He is the all-important, eternity-changing, and humanity-redeeming Son of the living God. Colossians 1:15 tells us, “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” Hebrews 1:3 says, “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” And at the time of his return, Revelation 19:16 says, “On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.”

To center our lives around meeting with God is to build our foundation on the unshakable center of all eternity. To build our lives around encounters with Jesus is to place the anchor of our hope in the King of kings and Lord of lords. Only Jesus is faithful to his word. Only Jesus will accomplish that which he has promised us.

1 John 2:17 says, “And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” The will of God is to center our lives around his loving presence. God’s greatest commandment is that we would simply love him with all we do. To live differently than the world around you by centering your life around encountering Jesus is to chart a new path that leads to the fullness of life.

It may appear foolish to the world to place your hope solely in the person of Jesus, but nothing could be more important. It may look different to cast aside the pursuits of society such as comfort, status, and acclaim, but no greater decision could be made. You serve a God who was, is, and is to come. You belong to a King who laid down his life that you might truly live. You’ll find no greater joy, peace, or purpose than in serving Jesus alone. There is no greater life than one lived in full devotion to the King of all the earth.

Take time today to recommit yourself fully to the King of kings and Lord of lords. Step away from the limited perspective and think about the divine, eternal kingdom of God. Allow the truth of God’s word and love to fill you with the courage to choose devotion to him over service to yourself and the world around you. May your day today be filled with the abiding presence of King Jesus.

Prayer

1. Meditate on Scripture about the person of Jesus. Remember that Jesus is alive and near. He is the living God and Scripture says your life is wrapped up in him.

Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2

2. In what ways is your life not centered around Jesus? In what ways are you living for the earth rather than eternity?

3. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you center your life around who Jesus was and is. Ask him to fill you with the knowledge of his nearness and love for you. Open your heart and receive the presence of Jesus. Ask him to show you ways that you can center your life around him today.

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Colossians 3:1

Napoleon Bonaparte is quoted as having said, “Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and myself founded empires; but what foundation did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded an empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for Him.” Is your life so wrapped up in Jesus that you would love and serve him at any cost? If not, know that there is grace. We only come to a place of full devotion by spending time consistently being loved by a selfless, servant-hearted God. May you rest in the grace of your heavenly Father today as you pursue a life centered around your loving Savior.

May you rest in the grace of your heavenly Father today as you pursue a life centered around your loving Savior.

The Power in Praying Out Loud

A friend once came to me and told me about her burdens she was bearing through at the time. She was expressing so many different types of emotions; anger, sadness, despair, and helplessness. My heart went out to her, I truly wanted to bring comfort to her.
During the two hour talk we had I was compiling all the situations we were going to pray through. My inner spirit was rising up for battle. My friend was not saved and I could vividly see hopelessness overwhelming her.

When she was done talking she sat there silently waiting for a response from me. I stood up from my chair with full confidence to tell her, "It's time to pray!" This wasn't the first time she had came to me with her hurts so she knew the end result with me was going to be prayer.

As I began to pray, the spirit of battle was rising. I thanked the Lord for His presence being there and asked for the Holy Spirit to continue to dwell within the place and to lead our tongues into the Word that was needed to be spoken to break any bondages that had a hold on her and the situations that were not changing.

Scriptures were being repeated over and over as the Lord was showing me spirits that needed to be prayed against. Depression, pride, generational curses, anger, idolatry. The longer we prayed hand in hand as two coming together, the louder we both got. We felt a power of release coming upon the atmosphere. We felt a battle being won! Our confidence grew as prayer continued. Our voices rose with authority and our bodies straightened out from head to toe with strength.

Luke 9:1

"Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure all diseases." -Luke 9:1

When I first started in a prayer group years ago, I went because of desperation. I felt that I didn't know God well enough for Him to hear my prayers. I wanted a "experienced" prayer warrior to pray over my situation. My thought process was that a person closer to God could get my prayers faster to God.
As the prayer team started their meeting they opened up with prayer requests. There were many requests with just a few people attending. I thought it would be best to give one quick petition so they don't forget about mine with the long list they had.
The prayer leader started by praying for the Holy Spirit to dwell and for the Lord to lead the tongues of His people. She continued to ask the Lord to hear the prayers of the righteous and to have every need to be revealed and spoken out loud. She gave the same requests for spirits that needed to be revealed and for the people to be delivered from them all. The leader prayed loud with authority and persistence. She didn't stop till she was weeping at the alter for Gods people.

The next five warriors that attended the meeting prayed with the same authority. Each one prayed what was requested and even spoke life and hope into every situation. Then came my prayer request. The last warrior to pray began to pray for my small prayer request, "my marriage." The louder she prayed, the more in depth she prayed for the small request.
The person that I never spoken more than two words to, prayed for my husband that she never met. The addictions that no one in the church ever heard about. My children's night terrors that I never told anyone and for my depression that I thought I hid so well. I cried and cried till my cries became a loud sound. That loud sound then became a freedom that I never knew.

Acts 16 tell us about Paul traveling to preach the gospel and how he was consistently being led by the Holy Spirit.

Paul had a vision in the middle of the night about a man that he was to travel to. As he and Silas continued on with their travels they found a place for prayer near a river. When a women heard the prayer and speaking of Paul she came to him and requested for her and her household to be baptized in the river. Then invited them to stay with her and her family before traveling again.

As days went on, another women that was enslaved by a fortune teller was following Paul and his companions, speaking against them everywhere they went. After a few days Paul became much annoyed and commanded with authority for the spirit to leave her and it did. When the women's owners heard of her being released by the spirit they became enraged. He then put Paul and Silas into prison.
While in prison, Paul and Silas was praying and singing praises unto the Lord and all the prisoners were listening. A great earthquake came upon the earth and all the shackles of the prisoners became loose. They were free.
When the jailer woke from the great shake, he drew his sword to kill himself because of the fear of him being persecuted for prisoners escaping. But Paul shouted "Do not kill yourself, we are all here". The jailer was so astonished by no one leaving that he fell to the ground asking Paul and Silas to baptized him and all in his household because he now believed who the Lord is. The next morning the jailer requested for them to be released from prison and they were. Paul and Silas was able to continue with their travels.

"The Lord brings freedom to the prisoners." -Psalm 146:7
Did you notice every time Paul prayed out loud others were baptized? Salvation was brought upon His people. Paul was led by the Holy Spirit. He spoke against spirits and his prayers brought others to the Lord.

Praying out loud brings authority and confidence. So much so for Paul that every prisoner released by the shackles stood inside the jail just to listen to him. By this happening, it proved their spiritual freedom by listening to the prayers and praises. Deliverance happened. And just as earlier in the story as a woman overheard the prayers and preaching of Paul, an entire household was baptized.

As we learn to develop the confidence of knowing the freedom and authority we have in prayer, we too will have the Holy Spirit lead our tongues to speak out loud. It will grab the ears of others to hear from the Lord. It will also encourage, bring deliverance, and redemption to others.

Authority will command spirits to leave. Speaking with authority in prayer is to speak loudly with a courageous voice and a self confidence that has no fear.
Just how the women and prisoners in Acts chapter 16 heard voices out loud praying and praising God, then all baptized; I too was a person that witnessed a prayer out loud that was led by the Holy Spirit and it brought me to my knees for redemption.

My friend was not a believer years ago when I had prayed with her but she is now. Seeds were planted each time we had prayed together. As it was continued to be cared for with continual prayers, the faith grew like a tree firmly planted by the water.

"He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of waters that brings forth his fruits in its season." Psalm 1:3

I highly encourage you today to go through your home, room to room and pray out loud. Speak with authority and confidence the Lord has given you.
Please leave a prayer of needs today for all to read out loud in their home. May the prayers travel from home to home, place to place.

God Sees Everything

Joyce Meyer
2 min read

A woman holding a Bible, preparing to read a daily devotional.

Adapted from Daily Devotions from Psalms

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them.
Psalm 11:4 (NIV)

The thought that God sees everything we do is sobering. Nothing is hidden from Him. He knows all our thoughts before we even think them, and He knows all the words we will speak before we say them. He knows all our needs, and He wants to meet them in the right way at the right time.

God’s Word tells us in Revelation 22:12 that each of us will be rewarded according to the works we have done during our earthly lives. Our salvation is not based on our works, but our rewards are. I found 46 Bible verses on the topic of the rewards of God. I am excited to see what surprises God has planned for us when our time on earth is over and we go to our heavenly home.

Also, in Revelation 22:12 (NIV), He says, Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I don’t want to miss any of my rewards, and I doubt that you do either, so keep in mind that nothing is hidden from God.

Children often behave better when they know a parent is watching them, and as children of God, we may tend to do the same. We should behave with excellence because we love God, and not merely to get a reward, but rewards are promised. Let’s live a righteous life so we can receive a righteous person’s reward.

Prayer of the Day:
Father, I understand from Your Word that You have rewards prepared for Your children. I ask You to help me live in such a way that when I get to heaven, I will be able to receive the full reward You have for me. In Jesus' name i pray this, Amen

Be Like Jesus

We all . . . are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory.
2 Corinthians 3:18

Lake-Cregennan-Frogs-eye-prespective.jpg

The tall passenger seemed to unfold as he stood up in the aisle of the small regional jet. Then I noticed the title of his boldly displayed book: Be Like Jesus. A few minutes later, I saw that same man push others aside to grab his bag off the waiting trolley. Be like Jesus? I didn’t know if he was truly a “brother” who knew Christ, but I was dismayed by this display of selfishness that misrepresented Jesus.

As my feet hit the escalator, I saw the man again, book cover still visible. The words then elbowed my own heart. Be like Jesus, Elisa. Don’t judge. I wondered, was my presence emanating anything of Jesus?

Becoming like Jesus is a transformational process—a metamorphosis—of God growing His character in us as we yield to His ways. Paul wrote that believers in Jesus “are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18). John marvels at how hard this is for us to understand—much less achieve: “Now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him [in purity], for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2-3).

As the escalator spilled us out, I glanced again at the book. Be Like Jesus—the words took on new meaning for me and redirected my gaze to my own heart and life.

Reflect & Pray

In what way do you long to be like Jesus? How can you cooperate with His work in your life?

Oh, God, how I want to be like You! Please have Your transformative way in my heart.

Today's Insights

In his first letter, John carries forward many of the same themes that frequently appear in his gospel account. These include love (1 John 3:11-15; 4:7-12; see John 3:16; 15:9-13) and light (1 John 1:5-7; 2:8-11; see John 1:9-13; 8:12; 9:5), both of which have been perfectly represented in the person of the Savior, Jesus Christ.

John also mirrors his gospel by opening his letter with a statement of the incarnation of Jesus—the Son of God, who has come in the flesh (1 John 1:1-4; see John 1:1-5). While John’s writings contain many eternally important ideas, the concepts of love and light continually bubble to the surface as he seeks to describe both who Christ is and what He came to bring. He’s the Son of God, who came to penetrate the world’s darkness with His perfect light and to heal the brokenhearted with His perfect love.

As we yield to Him, God grows His character in us, and we become more and more like Jesus.

New Opportunities in Christ

Revelation 21:1-5

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”
Revelation 21:5

images

Have you ever felt like you’ve missed an opportunity or that life has passed you by? Maybe you have faced setbacks, disappointments, or closed doors. It can be easy to feel that your chances for new beginnings are over, but the truth is that, with God, there is always an opportunity for something new.

In Revelation 21 we get a glimpse of the ultimate renewal God has in store: “a new heaven and a new earth.” And even today God is at work making things new in our lives. Whether it's a new relationship, a new calling, a new season of growth, or even a new perspective on the circumstances we find ourselves in, God is always offering new opportunities.

I remember a time in my life when everything seemed to be falling apart. Relationships were strained, work was stressful, and I felt as if I had nothing left to offer. But in the midst of that I felt a deep pull to start fresh, to rebuild, and to pursue something new.

As I stepped out in faith, God opened doors that I never expected, and he renewed my heart, mind, and spirit in ways that I could not have imagined.

If you feel stuck or as if the best parts of life are behind you, know that God is the God who makes all things new. His opportunities never run out, and his plans for you are always fresh and full of hope.

Lord Jesus, thank you for the new opportunities you bring into my life. Help me to trust you and to embrace the newness you have in store for me. Amen.

Mercy and Our Mess

From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. Jonah 2:1
Jonah 2:1-2, 7-10; 3:1-5

a-beautiful-humpback.jpg

Today's Devotional

During Sunday school, my patience with three-year-old Peter was wearing thin. He was unhappy, unkind to the other kids, and absolutely refused to be content, even when we offered him the most coveted toys. My pity turned to annoyance. If he stubbornly persisted in being difficult, then fine, I’d send him back to his parents and he would miss out on all the fun.
Too often I find my compassion has conditions. If someone ignores my advice or refuses my help, then they don’t deserve it anymore.

Fortunately, God doesn’t act that way toward us. The prophet Jonah experienced His great mercy after a time of stubborn disobedience when God commanded him to travel and preach to Nineveh (Jonah 1:2). Defiantly choosing the opposite direction, Jonah was caught in a terrible storm, set adrift at sea, and then swallowed by a great fish—a self-made disaster (vv. 4, 15-17). When Jonah finally “prayed to the Lord his God” (2:1), God was still listening to him, ready to forgive His reluctant prophet. Jonah was delivered from the fish and graciously given a second chance to go to Nineveh (3:1).

In little Peter’s case, a trip to the playground consoled him—a brilliant idea by a helper with more patience than I had shown. How beautiful is mercy that continually seeks us out, even in the middle of our own mess.

Reflect & Pray

Why do you sometimes struggle to offer mercy to others? When have you seen God’s love seek out even the most difficult recipients?

Dear Jesus, thank You for loving me with such long-suffering love. Teach me, please, to do the same.

God loves us, even when we tend to rebel. Find out more by reading To the Spiritual Rebels.

Today's Insights

The prophet Jonah behaves the opposite of how we’d expect a prophet to act. He runs away from God’s call (Jonah 1:3) and resents and sulks at God’s mercy (4:2-3).
Even Jonah’s prayer to God from a fish’s belly reveals a lack of self-awareness. He criticizes gentiles who cling to their idols (2:8) while describing himself as offering God praise and sacrifices (v. 9).
Yet in the previous chapter, gentile seamen swiftly repented and offered God sacrifices (1:14-16), but it took Jonah longer to turn to God!
Through highlighting Jonah’s flaws, the book emphasizes both the danger of spiritual pride and the wideness of God’s mercy.
God hears and responds to anyone who sincerely cries out to Him, whether that’s someone others see as a pagan or a self-righteous, rebellious prophet.

God Longs for Us to Know His Love

God Longs to be Encountered
Every one of us needs to be reminded of the depth of his love on a regular basis, and it’s my hope that today we can take some time to do so. May you never be the same again.

Scripture

Introduction

As we focus this week on God’s radical desire to meet with his people, today we’ll explore his longing for us to know his love. There is nothing more transformative than encountering the love of God. It changes everything about us and our lives. Every one of us needs to be reminded of the depth of his love on a regular basis, and it’s my hope that today we can take some time to do so. May you never be the same again.

Devotional

I’ve spent so much of my life striving to be loved. The overwhelming need to be loved by somebody, anybody, is at the heart of most every decision, thought, perspective, and action I make. We are created with a longing to be loved. God formed us with an insatiable need for love because he desires to satisfy that longing. You see, we no longer have to go through life wondering if we’re loved. Our God doesn’t hide his heart from us. He never holds back his love.

Romans 5:8 says, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God demonstrated his love for us on the cross. But the cross also serves as a reminder that God will, now and forever, continually pour out his love. Not only did he commit a powerful act of love then, but he also makes his love available to us now.

Psalm 26:3 says, “For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.” And Psalm 36:5 says, “Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.” The love of God is continually available to us. His steadfast love is here, ready to be experienced. God longs to so satisfy our great need for love that we stop seeking it from the world. He longs to so fill us up with his unconditional affections that we would no longer strive to be loved, but simply find rest in him.

Romans 8:37-39 says,

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

There is nothing we could ever do to separate ourselves from the love of God. As soon as we feel the need to be loved we can always turn our hearts toward our heavenly Father and simply receive a fresh awareness of his powerful, unconditional love. Stop working to be loved. Stop striving for that which is already yours. What are the affections of man in comparison to the love of your Creator? What is the fleeting, fickle praise of man in comparison to the all-consuming, powerful, and truthful love of God?

May your life be marked by a peace that comes from resting in the love of your heavenly Father alone.

Prayer

1. Reflect on your need for love. In what ways do you strive to be loved every day? Who have you been seeking out love from to fill a need in your life? Where have you been striving for the opinion of man?

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

2. Meditate on the unconditional nature of God’s love. Meditate on the availability of his presence.

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39

3. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you encounter to love of God today. Ask God how he feels about you and wait for a sense of his love. Rest in the truth of Scripture and receive the love of your heavenly Father.

“For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.” Psalm 26:3

One of the most powerful truths about God’s love can be found in 1 John 4:18. Scripture says, There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. God’s love makes us fearless. Who or what is there to fear when the God of the universe truly loves us? What cause is there for fear when God would send his only Son to die that we might simply have relationship with him? Rest in the love of God today and allow the truth of his affections for you to cast out any fear you have. There is no reason to fear. God has you and loves you. May you find peace and joy today in response to the steadfast love of your heavenly Father.

Standing Strong in Christ | https://odb.sg/devo/dailybread/2026-01-29-standing-strong-in-christ/?ref=homepage-banner

Bible in a Year: Exodus 21-22; Matthew 19

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Ephesians 6:11

Today’s Scripture & Insight:

Ephesians 6:10-20

Recently, my mom gave me a play-by-play of a surprising confrontation she saw on a live webcam feed from a watering hole in Africa. The Gemsbok, a large antelope, has horns that can be more than two feet long, making it a formidable animal that doesn’t seem to scare easily. That is, unless it comes across a group of brave and rowdy ostriches.
The lead ostrich, which was taller than its foes, shook its large feathers, roared, and stomped toward three Gemsbok, causing them to flee.

“I guess they didn’t realize how powerful their horns are,” I said to my mom.

Believers in Jesus can forget the power we have when faced with attacks from our spiritual enemy, Satan. We have the Holy Spirit who lives inside us (Romans 8:11) and the armor of God to help us: “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11). Satan wants to challenge our belief in God’s Word, question our identity in Christ, and tempt us to sin.
But we can stand strong because God’s armor includes “the belt of truth, . . . the breastplate of righteousness, . . . the shield of faith, . . . the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (vv. 14-17)
.
When the enemy attacks us with feelings of fear, condemnation, or despair, let’s remember we’re God’s children and are well equipped to stand strong.

Reflect & Pray

Why do you sometimes forget to use the armor of God? How can you stand firm in your battles?

Dear God, thank You for giving me Your divine protection.

In God’s Presence | https://odb.sg/devo/dailybread/2026-01-30-in-gods-presence/?ref=homepage-banner

Bible in a Year: Exodus 23-24; Matthew 20:1-16

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!

Proverbs 6:6

Today’s Scripture & Insight:

Proverbs 6:6-11

In 1692, Brother Lawrence’s work The Practice of the Presence of God was first published. In it, he described how he invited God into his mundane daily activities. Brother Lawrence’s words still challenge us to prayerfully seek God in everything we do, like mowing the yard, getting groceries, or walking the dog.

Each day, I take our dog, Winston, for a walk. My goal for him is to exercise. Winston’s goal? Sniffing everything. Calling this time “a walk” is a generous fiction. More often, we’re going for a . . . stop. Lately, instead of getting frustrated by a lack of forward progress, I’ve been asking God to help me see these moments as a reminder that life is a lot like walking a dog. We experience God’s presence as we faithfully obey Him in life’s everyday activities, including their unexpected interruptions.

In Proverbs 6, Solomon offers a similar lesson, using the everyday, humble example of the ant to call us to work faithfully: “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise” (v. 6). Solomon used ants as an example of everyday, patient labor (vv. 7-8).

Our relationship with God needn’t be compartmentalized into designated “spiritual” times alone, like church or a quiet time. Instead, as we faithfully obey Him, God invites us to see His divine fingerprints throughout each day.

God Longs to Share His Will | https://www.first15.org/devotionals/god-longs-to-share-his-will-2026/

God Longs to be Encountered
May you gain some insight about next steps for you today, and fresh peace in the midst of whatever season you’re in.

Scripture

original.jpg

Introduction

The will of God is often a scary and difficult process to discern. But just as we learned earlier this week—God longs for us to know his voice. And God promises to speak his will to us in a way we’ll understand. My hope is that today you can rest at ease in total peace that your future is in God’s hands, and he’s got you. May you gain some insight about next steps for you today, and fresh peace in the midst of whatever season you’re in.

Devotional

One of the most peaceful truths of Scripture is that God longs to share his will with his people. God is not one who leaves us to our own devices. He’s not even one who leaves us with the Bible and says, “Good luck. I hope you figure it out.” He’s the God who dwells within us, longing to speak into our lives and guide us into his perfect, pleasing plans.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 is an often quoted passage in Christian circles. But I pray that the powerful promise contained in its words will be revealed to you today in a fresh, transformative way. Scripture says,

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.

We can place our hope in the revealed will of our heavenly Father. We can trust that we are not sheep without a shepherd, but rather those in the flock of a perfect, loving God who came to lay down his life for us. Through the Holy Spirit, God is perfectly capable of guiding us into his plans for “welfare and not for evil.” Behind his leading is always a more abundant, presence-filled life. Behind his leading is always more of him and more of who we are in him.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. God longs to make straight our paths. But in order to follow his leading, we must assess where our trust is and who we are acknowledging with our lives. We will never follow that which we don’t fully trust. If we are to be led by the Spirit we must trust that everything he tells us to do is absolutely the best thing for us.

Trust is meant to be the fruit of relationship. It’s meant to be birthed out of an experiential knowledge of God’s trustworthiness. If you haven’t given God much of a chance to prove himself trustworthy in your life, today is the day. We as the people of God must place our hope in him alone if we are to experience all the wealth of life his promises have to offer. We must place our trust in him if we are to receive a full knowledge of his will.

Take time to meditate on the trustworthiness of your God. Meditate on his desire to share with you his will. Take time to place your trust in him alone and commit yourself to following his leading. May your day be marked by all the fruit of God’s perfect, pleasing plans for your life.

Prayer

1. Meditate on God’s trustworthiness and desire to share with you his will.

And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Isaiah 58:11

2. Where do you have a hard time trusting God? Where is your life not marked by his perfect, pleasing plans?

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9

3. Ask God to reveal his will to you in those areas. Align your heart with his desires for you that you might experience the fruit of truly following his will. Place your trust in God alone for every area of your life.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2

Oftentimes God’s perfect, pleasing plans don’t conform to the desires and wants of the world. But we have to place our trust in him that his ways are higher than ours. His desires and wants for us are better than anything we can imagine. He has eternity in mind when he leads us along with our present circumstances and desires. Trust that as you align your heart with him and place your hope in him alone, his leading will perfectly satisfy the deep desires of your heart.

Extended Reading: Isaiah 58 or watch a video on Isaiah 40-66.

Fellowship with God | https://joycemeyer.org/DailyDevo

Joyce Meyer – Jan 31, 2026

Dried flowers sitting on an open Bible ready for reading a daily devotional.

Adapted from Quiet Times with God

In the night my soul longs for You [O Lord], indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently; for [only] when Your judgments are experienced on the earth will the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
Isaiah 26:9 (AMP)

Nothing can satisfy our longing for God except communion and fellowship with Him. Isaiah expressed well our own hunger for God when he wrote, In the night my soul longs for You [O Lord], indeed my spirit within me seeks You diligently…(Isaiah 26:9 AMP). Isaiah needed quiet times with God, and so do we.

Hearing from God is vital to enjoying His eternal plan for our lives. Listening to God is our decision; no one else can make it for us. God won’t force us to choose His will, but He will do everything He can to encourage us to say yes to His ways.

This means God wants to be involved in even the smallest details of our lives. His Word tells us to acknowledge Him in all our ways, and He will direct our paths (Proverbs 3:6). To acknowledge God is to care what He thinks and to ask for His opinion. If you do this on a daily basis, you’ll find His guidance and walk in a much closer relationship with Him.

Prayer of the Day:
Lord, help me seek You daily and listen for Your voice. Teach me to acknowledge You in every decision and trust that You will guide my steps in wisdom, Amen.
