R9 290 Battlefield 4 performance?

Hey guys. I'm running a r9290oc (gigabyte) with an i5 4570 (3.2ghz) and 8gb of ram. My frame rate without v-sync on can hit 100+ but can also dip to 50+ (feels damn choppy) in maps such as siege of shanghai or when there's damn a lot of sh$t going on. Is it normal or abnormal? I'm on 13.12 drivers. Thanks guys!

I'm playing at 1080p and my settings are set at ultra & MSAA 2x

Normal. Used same combo as u some time back. Load increases alot more when there's alot of stuff gg on. Go grab the new 14.4 beta driver now and activate mantle. Should perform even better with that.

Thanks for the reply! Does the CPU take most of the load when there're lots on players interacting with one another?

Its normal.

Its the game itself has a bit of a issues.

In multiplayer in different maps it gives different fps range. Siege of shanghai is one of the few maps that will be around 50-90fps range. The gpu loading is very irregular. Its on total randomness when an enemy is shooting you or a grenade explodes. Causing the loading in the monitor graphs to be up and down all the time in random.

there is mantle option. you can try if there is improvement for your bf4

Just a side question, would a more powerful CPU increase fps by a whole lot?

Not much difference. Even if you had an i7. Your fps gain is negligible as it is single digit.

at 1080p, it looks like your CPU is holding you back. Try to overclock to 4.2ghz...but i see your i5 is not a K version? IF so, see if your board support no-K overclocking, really need to rack up your CPU clock speed for BF4 MP

Thanks for the suggestion to update to 14.4. Game is noticeably smoother and fps seems to have improved with mantle enabled. Awesome!
