Ram for Ryzen

Sexperts, my current pc just died. SO LL have to fix up a new one.

Targeting a Ryzen 1700 + Asus B350 Prime Plus.

But for ram, its always an issue rite? If i get Gskill Trident 3200, can i hit 3200 speed? Or getting the Corsair Vengence LPX 3200 is a safer bet? As in without doing any/much fiddling on the ram volt/etc etc.

Both also okay. Latest bios even hynix 2x8gb 3200mhz is achievable.

As far as I know only for 2 dimms. If you plan to use all 4, you'll be lucky to hit 2933 for now

Just got my pc, took me a while to setup....

In the end i got :
Ryzen 1700
Giga AB350 gaming 3 (cos CM dun have 1700 and Bizgram dun have Asus B350 prime)....
Gskill Tridnet Z 3200 16x2

However everytime i set it to XMP - for 3200mhz.... it fail to post (3beeps). If normal it detect as 2133 I had updated to latest bios F7 but still da same.... Ram is F4-3200C16D-16TZB

Any settings i need to do under XMP? I noob at ram settings.... frankly i nvr oc ram b4 in my life. CPU yes but also long ago - just change multiplier nia.... no fiddling with volt/etc etc

Don't use XMP. Key in your RAM settings manually.

Try stuff like:
DRAM freq: 2933 or 3066 MHz at 16-18-18-38
DRAM voltage: 1.35 - 1.38V
SOC voltage: 1.05 - 1.2V (don't exceed 1.2V)
Command rate: 2T (2N on gigabyte boards, same thing, also disable Geardown mode)

Try to get it stable at relaxed settings first, then start trying to push 3200 or tighten timings/reduce voltages.

Not easy to hit 3200 on 16gb sticks. 8gb sticks easier n depends on board n imc of ya chip.

Too many options at the memory part..... all like alien words to me LOL. cant try 16-18-18-38 cos got more than 4sections - 5 setting (1st part)

If you don't plan to OC, any ram will work.

But note that officially supported speed for 4 sticks of dual rank is only 1866MHz. That said, 2133 or 2400 should be easy to hit. Also, Ryzen only supports dual channel; consider TR if your workload will benefit from quad channel.

tRCDWR and tRCDRD are usually set to the same value, hence we usually just write one number for both of them. Some older bioses don't allow write and read to be set differently, allowing only a single timing for tRCD.

Ram OC on Ryzen is still quite hit-and-miss. What sort of speeds are you aiming for? If you want to push limits (3200+), you really need a good kit. If you're looking at 2933 and below on a single stick, most products will do, but you may want to look at AMD's memory compatibility list and your mobo's QVL. OCing a stick to rated speed is of course much easier than OCing beyond rated speed, although neither is 100% guaranteed.

Ram prices are high these days, I don't think you'll save much money from getting a lower quality stick, and the extra work trying to OC it may not be worth the savings in the end.

If you run 2 sticks in dual channel, there is in theory larger bandwidth compared to 1 stick, but in daily use the difference is almost unnoticeable. There are certain workloads that benefit from this, including where integrated graphics shares system memory. This is irrelevant to Ryzen (since they have no iGPUs anyway).

If you only need 8GB of ram, yes, one stick will do the job.

I suggest getting a stick rated for at least 2800 MHz, but if a 3000 MHz one doesn't cost very much more, get that instead. It will save a lot of hassle trying to get it stable. See if the price is right on Vengeance LPX or the G.skill dual rank sticks.

faster ram could improve your fps
