Ram issues with B450 Tomahawk

Hi All,

I have the below setup:

MSI B450 Tomahawk (Bios Version E7C02AMS.170)
Ryzen 5 2600
G.Skill Flare X 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200 (F4-3200C16D-16GFX)

For whatever reason, Windows seems to limit my RAM to 8GB but both DIMM were recognized in bios.

Brought mobo down to Corbell service centre and technician mentioned that it's due to my updated bios (he mentioned that newer bios has issues with my Ryzen 5 thus causing ram not detected properly). He helped me rollback to E7C02AMS.170 but I'm still facing the same problem.

Tried the following:

• updated BIOS to latest stable 7C02v1D
• swap ram sticks into slots (I ensured that the correct ram slots were used)
• tested single ram stick to ensure RAM is working fine (both tested fine)

Can anyone else help me with this? Screenshot below via msinfo32.

ryzen 5 2600 no igpu.

might sound stupid but have u try installin os on another disk & see whether problem persist? could be OS some times. or faster way would be using those bootable mini OS like hiren to verify.

I would try reinstalling windows on another drive to test as someone suggested. If that still does not work I would bring your RAM to a friends house to test on their system to see if it works there.

It’s a bit odd that the RAM works one stick at a time tho.

Board spoil.

Corbell tested the board using their ram sticks and came to conclusion that it's working fine. My ram were not bought locally so they cannot help to diagnose.

Bios by default detects my 3200 as 2400, changing to any other speed doesn't POST.

Will try this later today. Yes, I find it very peculiar too but I can't find the problem.

Try get an Asus board next time. Based on personal experiences.

Can wait for the B550 AM4 mobo.

Asrock works fine for me too, but takes slightly more time to configure.

first off xmp, clean your golden contacts and reseat them. Some reason the ram not read properly.

Bring to Nigel and let him test for you and pay a small fee. Should be able to give u a conclusion in less than 10mins

have owned both ASUS and Asrock mobo before, and none (including MSI) has given me much problem except this time around. I just blame on my luck, MSI do make pretty decent and affordable boards.

Yes, have cleaned all the contact points using 70% IPA and cotton buds.

Basically, it is either motherboard or RAM.

If Corbell just put another set of RAM inside and it is working fine, then maybe RAM issue? If want to double confirm, put your RAM onto another PC, see got problem or not, if got problem, then it is the RAM already.

If Corbell side willing to test for you and put the RAM onto another motherboard, then you can see whether the RAM got issue or not.
