I'm not expert but my laptop is using the same spec ram
so it should still be available around, maybe not in local shops but definitely available in amazon/Newegg

but first find out what kind of ram the motherboard can take and maximum amount

If I am not wrong, you can purchase the faster DDR3 RAM still being sold today. It will adjust and slow itself to the required speed, more specifically by the memory controller on your motherboard.

See: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/support-memory-speeds-compatability

Memory is designed to be backward-compatible, so generally speaking, you can safely add faster memory to a computer that was designed to run slower memory. However, your system will operate at the speed of the slowest memory module.

One thing to keep in mind is that the memory does need to be the same type - for example, SDRAM cannot be mixed with DDR, and DDR cannot be mixed with DDR2 and DDR2 cannot work in a DDR3 system.

DDR3-1333 and DDR3-1600 are still available widely today. Plug them in and they should work. If you are not sure, you can go Sim Lim Square and ask the shop to install for you on the spot to make sure it works before paying.

If u have the budget, why not? 4gb costs about $40, 8gb cost $80. Also depends on the software u use and software running on your laptop. Your system may run fine with 4gb if u are only running Microsoft Office with little other software running behind.

Check u have 2 ram slots for the ram kit that comes in a pair of 4gb. Using same ram sticks ensures compatibility.

Alternatively if u don't mind used parts, Sim Lim Square level 4 has some shops in the backlane that sells second hand parts. You should be able to find the older DDR3-1066 laptop RAM there. Price probably won't be much cheaper than brand new faster DDR3 RAM as they are rare items.

Really depends from shop to shop. Most of the time it is the labour which is expensive.

Also depends on the fix that the tech will suggest. If he suggests replacing the whole motherboard for the broken USB port, I guess it won't be worth it. As well buy a new laptop. :(

Actually, just get any DDR3 RAM that is faster than your one. It will run. All recent RAMs will step down. Which means you can practically get any type of RAM. No need to waste time searching for 1066.

There is also no necessity to look for compatible pairs. For ddr3 onwards, they are built on the same standards. You can technically mix and match any combination of speed and size. Just ensure that the speed is minimum 1066Mhz. The faster ones will step down and work.

:)
