Ram question

Posted this in notebook section but couldn't get any response. Pardon me for double post but I think this may be applicable to desktop too.



I currently have 2 slots in my notebook but only have 1x4GB ram.

Am using 32bit Windows now and am aware I'll be kept at 3+GB actual usage.

I assume 2x2GB RAM is faster than 1x4GB ram.

So in this case, if I put in 2x4GBram, while Windows still only use 3+, will it be faster than 1x4GB ram?


Money wise no diff to me as company will pay...

It wun be faster..... even if it is, you cant feel the difference.

It will be faster. But must depends on the ram speed you are running. I used to own a g42 laptop.

It has both memories running at 533mhz iirc. If one of them is taken out, it is darn slow.

Not unless both are used it is slightly better.

But lets say it is way above like 1300mhz and above, there is no much difference and you cant feel it between dual or single ram used.

Am using a X220 ThinkPad

I am seeing is there any other way to improve the laptop performance. Obviously changing a new laptop is off at the moment. Corporate policy forbid me buying anything other than Dell now and I do not want a Dell.

I am going to swap my IDE HDD to SSD. Do let me know if there is any other room for improvement.

Check if you running into low ram problems?
If u only got 4gb and use like 90+% of it, u will feel system start to lag.
If thats the case, then reinstall windows 64bit and get 4gb more ram

Unfortunately office policy made all the laptop deliver with 32bit Windows. IT/IS won't supply 64 bit. I don't have a working 64bit version, especially I'll need a Pro version for office environment. So I am stuck.

i think u can activate both windows 7 home premium 32 bit and 64 bit with the same product key.
Somehow get the product key off your computer and you can reinstall it.

oh I didn't know that! I'll google how to get my current out. The sticker dropped out long ago...
