old board but thinking upgrade to 16gb ram ....

but what does this means?

so if ...( if only) i want to buy 1866 ram x4 only slot 3 and 4 can clock to 1866 while others is 1600?

:s11:

the mobo will auto down clock the rams to the highest speed it can run
i.e assuming u buy 4 sticks of ram running at 1866mhz, u install 4 sticks of ram into all 4 slots, because slot 1 and 2 cannot run higher than 1866mhz, all 4 rams will run at the highest speed slot 1 and 2 can run (should be 1333mhz based on the spec sheet)
if u want to run 16gb at 1866mhz, go buy 2 sticks of 8gb ram at 1866mhz:s22::s22:

just fyi real world can't feel the difference between 1333mhz or 1866mhz... all same same 1, unless u running some server or some super software then maybe got difference..

btw 8gb should be more than enough... and if u really want to upgrade, get same brand same model safest
