RAM Slots Dead?

It seems that when I try to swap my ram slot (e.g. from slot 4 to 1/2/3 single stick 8gb ram only), there will be no display on boot. Does this means that all of my ram slots are spoilt except the one im using?
Because I'm planning to get another stick to make it 16, do I have to RMA it?

The slot pins may be oxidised, or fill with dirt, due to no rams seated in it. You may wanna try cleaning the slots first.
